Georgia's Lt Gov Threatens To Retaliate Against Delta Unless It Reverses Its Decision On The NRA

Georgia's lieutenant governor on Monday attacked Delta Airlines for dropping a partnership with the National Rifle Association, pledging to block any legislation that includes tax benefits for the airline.

Delta, which is headquartered in Atlanta, ended a discount program for NRA members on Saturday after public backlash following a recent high school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

"Delta is reaching out to the National Rifle Association to let it know we will be ending its contract for discounted rates through our group travel program," Delta said in a statement. "We will be requesting that the NRA remove our information from its website."

In response, Georgia Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle — who is running for governor as a Republican this year — tweeted that he would block any legislation until Delta renews the partnership.

"I will kill any tax legislation that benefits @Delta unless the company changes its position and fully reinstates its relationship with @NRA," Cagle said Monday. "Corporations cannot attack conservatives and expect us not to fight back."

The Georgia legislature is considering a bill that includes a provision to exempt Delta's purchases of jet fuel from the state sales tax, a move that could potentially save the airline around $40 million.

Several other Georgia GOP lawmakers suggested they would not support the tax change until Delta reversed its decision.

Delta attempted to clarify over the weekend that the decision was nonpartisan, painting it as simply a way to stay out of the debate over guns.

"Delta's decision reflects the airline's neutral status in the current national debate over gun control amid recent school shootings," Delta's statement said. "Out of respect for our customers and employees on both sides, Delta has taken this action to refrain from entering this debate and focus on its business. Delta continues to support

Sounds like a plan.

I’m sure there are other airlines that would love to fill the Hub left open when Delta gets kicked out.

Super duper! I’m sick and tired of corporate managers using the firms to promote the mamagers’ Personal politics

I appreciate the sentiment, but I do not think it is the place of the government to tell corporations whom to support (or not support).

Of course, in my opinion it is also not the place of government to provide welfare (e.g. fuel tax subsidies) to corporations.

The only way this crap ends is when it costs companies money or blood or both.

This is exactly what needs to happen - this is a tactic the left has used to great effect, time to turn it around. Make it about their pocketbook, make them have to focus on how much a course of action will cost them, make them have to sit down and actually calculate it.

Delta needs to be careful what it wishes for. They may just get it.

Also, if Delta wanted to stay out of the debate, they:

1. Should have done it long before now, but they wanted NRA member dollars.
2. Should also have bailed on any leftist/gun control groups that they support. They haven’t - they only bailed on the NRA.

I called the other day, but I just followed up with a letter to National Car Rental. I reminded them about the $1000 rental bill I had two weeks ago.

I told them that the decision making skills of their management was suspect and followed up with the truth about the shooter. 45 police visits, including one he called on himself as a danger, calls to FBI, students turning him in to administration of the school. (kids never snitch, that one is huge) I asked just where NRA came into play. I expect no response

Delta could have remained neutral and out of the politics that HOGG is promoting. They could have and they have chosen sides. Too bad.

I’ve had no real problems with Delta, but did try to avoid LateLanta whenever possible.
Same for Sh*tcago.
No matter, quoting the plane Nazi: “No Delta for you.”
Or me.

“The boycott wars begin.”

True. We don’t fly Delta (and will not, after this) but we did cancel our automatic subscription for Symantec last week.

Truly, I don’t care what the politics of a particular business are unless they make a big show of it. Then if my purchases with them endorse socialism, homosexuality, or an anti-gun agenda then I won’t do business with them.
