My post was to highlight it’s the kids who need to be monitored and controlled, not so much guns. The earlier years, when most are in school, present the best opportunities to identify and resolve conduct and emotional issues, not when they become adults. Teachers can identify problem students that may need further assistance and emotional support beyond the classroom.

Absent parents and failed family relationships can also be determining factors in a kid’s emotional stability during this time. Parents need to take more responsibility and become more involved with their kids and their pals.

If anyone, parents, teachers, friends, etc, had spotted the red flags and councilled Cruz at an earlier age then maybe the course of events and the outcome could have changed to something more positive. Cruz carried a lot of emotional baggage for years and ultimately lost it. It appears he had no one he could trust.

The awareness issue is complicated and not clearly defined. Many people don’t want to get involved because they don’t know what to do about the situation or who to contact at a higher level if they are concerned. There needs to be some guidelines established.

Our prisons are full of inmates that have mental (illness) issues and histories similar to Cruz’s. It’s probably too late for them, but not for our kids.

Um, actually it’s not quite so clear-cut now. Yes, the company should be able to set whatever restrictions they want that are more stringent than the legal ones. But, as we’ve seen with the cake bakeries, the courts seem to think that if the people have a certain ‘right’, then the companies can’t violate that. So an actual, real, articulated right should be even harder for a company to go against!

True, but these hypocrites want to lower the voting age and the age of consent to 12 if they could.

It may not fly in your mind, but as a business owner, I decide what goes on in my store, not you. If you don’t want to shop here, that is fine. You shop where you want. But, I make the rules here. End of story.

I prefer to spend my $$$ at locally-owned businesses when that is a viable option. wallymarts is a despicable company that is owned by despicable people.

I’d never consider them as a place to purchase a firearm prior to this announcement, so for me nothing changes.

Walmart just lost an ass load of customers.

To answer your question, of course a free market private company can have a more restrictive policy than allowed by law. Walmart doesn’t have to sell guns at all if they don’t want to. They can set any legal policy they want.

But they just lost a few million shoppers.

They can set any legal policy they want.

Can they legally deny gun sales to blacks?
Can they legally deny gun sales to anyone over, say, 50?

No.

#21. I’ll bet Walmart does sell a lot of Tacos and Burritos. Nothing more dangerous than a frozen Burrito.
