If the data is bad, and it is, background checks are useless, expensive to manage and are a burden to the law abiding. Those with evil intent will find a way around any system.

After Pres Trump’s comments yesterday I’m surprised they are not demanding full repeal of 2nd Amendment.

First off, hell no.
Secondly, I don’t ever want to hear from our side how there’s no time to add new legislation when this suddenly is the only topic being discussed with no prior plans to do so. The legislative calendar allows for whatever the legislature wants to do. No time constraints all of a sudden.
I can see the technocrats requiring physicians and psychiatrists to report psychiatric disorders to a database or those on psych medications.
What they could do is expand the controlled substance database to include psych drugs as class 5 controlled substances. Opioids, benzos, ADD drugs are already on there. Then, the background check could include this info.
I am absolutely opposed to this approach, and I think to safeguard privacy, we must prohibit law enforcement from having this info w/o subpoena. An a-hole like sessions would love this.

I do not own a gun. I was planning to buy one with tax return money, but if they seriously entertain the idea of confiscation, 2016 will be the last year that I will have voted.

I would like candidates to pass a background check in order to run for congress. And all members of congress be subjected to random drug screening. But I don’t see this happening.
