Andrew Pollock: on Face the Nation

A man whose 18-year-old daughter was killed during the Parkland, Florida, high school shooting chastised Fox News’ Chris Wallace and other media Sunday for spending too much time focusing on gun control instead of trying to come up with solutions to making schools safer. Andrew Pollack, whose daughter Meadow was one of the 17 students and teachers killed on Feb. 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, made the comments on “Fox News Sunday” after Florida Gov. Rick Scott appeared on the show to discuss his school safety proposal, which includes raising the age on gun sales to 21 and banning the sale of bump-stock attachments.

Mr. Pollack argued that gun control is too divisive an issue and that school safety is something that most Americans would be able to agree upon.

“What you are focusing on — polarizing this event, the murder of these kids — you’re talking about gun control. I just had to listen to you and Gov. Scott talk about gun control,” the father said. “Gun control is a big issue. No one in America is going to come together on gun control, Chris. You didn’t say one thing about fixing it. The American people, we could get together on school safety, but when you polarize it, this event and every other media, we don’t care about gun control right now.”

What’s someone so smart doing on Face the Nation? I might have high hopes for the new moderator, Margaret Brennan!

Morning AB, All. As always, thank you AB for doing this thread so reliably and keeping the peace with gentle thread policing. Thank you Bray for weekly written wisdom, Thank all yon contributors for excellent commentary to flesh it all out.

Below are the words from my daily political diary. It is quite long so scroll on by if not interested. But do stay around and add your commentary and point of view to the thread.

Check out the commentary and insight of Freedbird for real inside knowledge.

So I erased every daily thing I wrote in my political journal last week and it won't let me re-copy from Facebook. I got an attitude three miles long and two miles wild.

Let us start the Sunday talk with a few of my thoughts from last week's events, as I write in anger and seethe.

First, what's going on between President Trump and Jeff Sessions? Now they are having nasty Twitter wars?

Here's what I think happened. I think Sessions was a plant, told to hang around Trump during his entire campaign and act like he loved the guy.

Sessions campaigned for the position of Attorney General and Trump, being the sort of person who rewards loyalty and good input. Then Trump learned it was all a set up, eventually he fired Comey, Sessions recused himself from the Mueller Russia probe because he was meant to stand aside and let them take Trump down.

Now I'm probably wrong about that but what else would have this scenario happening. Sessions adored Trump during the campaign then betrayed him every way from Sunday once Trump fell for the trap.

Now we have Sessions doing an awful job as most smart people would tell you, and now Trump is in a tweet war with the guy.

The swamp beat Trump on this one guys. He got beat up and so did we all.

------------------------

Now about that tariff. China makes a bunch of steel and sells it cheap. Except China's steel is not always that strong and for something, you need good strong steel. You don't want to go flying on an airplane made out of aluminum foil.

Germany also is a big manufacturer of steel.

Indeed steel is an important commodity on this planet, needed for washing machines, to submarines to airplanes.

So when America imports the cheap China steel it does not charge the Chinese a tariff, which is fine.

Except when America exports its steel to China (probably not done very often but should China need good sturdy steel they should get it from America), America does pay a tariff to China.

Folks, it's time, like Trump says, to make America great again. It's time these cheating countries stop taking advantage of us. We send them foreign aid and let some nutjob take over their country we send our armies cause goodness knows they can't do it on their own.

And somebody tell Mark Levin to get over it. No, just because I am in favor of the new tariff does not mean I am anti-American. Levin does sometimes go off the deep end.

Now Mark's argument is that the free market will determine the need for tariffs, not laws passed by American presidents.

In due course the market WILL determine the need for tariffs. Trump is throwing down the gauntlet, letting the world know that America wants to be treated fair. Mark Levin misses the nuances of it all. He just wants to gripe and at times like this I don't want to forgive his anti-Trump stance he took before the election.

Mark wanted to be so cool and he just came off as part of the silly never-Trump crowd.

Basically, the argument never changes.

Did crazy people kill or did the gun use crazy people to kill?

Sane people suggest that crazy people kill.

Does it really matter if they use a truck and run down people on the sidewalk?Wear a suicide vest and blow up people at an open market? Used explosives to bomb a theatre, deli, business or whatever? Or use knives to slice Israeli citizens after tunneling in from hezzi land.?

Doesn't matter.

It's crazy people vs. the device they use.

The drivebys have successfully changed the venue to mean:

Guns bad, crazy people OK.

It's sad we can't successfully oppose a meme like that.

Andrew Pollack gets it. My heart goes out to him, his family and all their loved ones. The real culprits of the Feb. 14, slaughter are certainly the maniac shooter and the gun he used, but.....the real motivators and abettors of this absolute horror show is none other then the entire Democrat Party, Broward County leadership, the school board and their administrators, the county social workers, the Broward County Sheriff, the Broward County Police Force and the Federal Government FBI.

The NRA & millions of citizen gun owners throughout the USA has nothing to do with this tragic incident. The Democrat liberal, progressive, left-wing had everything to with it happening. The elected public servants of Broward County & the Federal Goverment FBI, stood by, when advised of this oncoming tragedy, did nothing to prevent it, causing the deaths of innocents and their hero teachers that tried to protect them during the bullet massacre.

It is truly a shame that the parents, citizens & voters of Broward County, Florida cannot see the forest for the trees. However, the rest of the American nation and people clearly sees the guilty parties, and that is why their cause of gun control is losing the battle.

Had these folks lashed out at their elected public servants, their cause of gun control, restrictions, and background checks would have been more successful, Guns do not kill people, people kill people and the elected Democrats of Broward County, Florida, shortchanged their most precious asset, their children. Case closed.
