An appropriate discussion of the second amendment would include a discussion of tyranny, the revolutionary origins of the US, Hitler's confiscation of guns, Tiananmen Square, and a myriad of other historic facts that demonstrate why a citizenry needs to be able to defend itself against overreach of government.

Hitler's confiscation of guns

One nit to pick. Hitler did not confiscate the guns from German citizens. The Weimar Republic did that prior to Hitler's rise, in order to prevent he and his followers from taking power. It had the obverse effect, which is a precursor to events of this day.
