Cuomo considering statewide ban on plastic bags

Gov. Cuomo said he’s considering backing a statewide ban on plastic bags to help curb unnecessary trash — a day after Mayor de Blasio proposed such a restriction for New York City.

“It’s clear that we need to address the real environmental concerns caused by the proliferation of plastic ‎bags, and a ban is one of the options we’re reviewing,” Cuomo spokesman Richard Azzopardi said.

Not so fast, said one influential state lawmaker.

“The first step is that they should enforce what’s on the books,” said Sen. Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn), who led a successful fight against the city imposing a 5-cent fee on the bags. “There’s a recycling bill that’s on the books that’s not being enforced. After they do what’s in the laws, then they can propose new laws.”

A number of other New York localities have banned plastic bags, including East Hampton, Southampton and Patchogue Village on Long Island, and Mamaroneck, Hastings-on-Hudson, New Paltz and Rye in Westchester County/Hudson Valley.

The only trash that needs to be removed is Cuomo.

The last plastic bag in New York should be put over Cuomo’s head and secured at the neck with duct tape. I saw that scene in some movie.

Cuomo is the symptom not the disease. The disease is the liberal majority in NY who elected him. Remember they wouldn't have voted for him if they didn't think his hard left statism was what they wanted.

Personally I hope New Yorkers get everything done to them that they wish to export to the rest of the country. I hope they are all disarmed. I hope their taxes go through the roof. I hope that they have restrictions on how much water they can use. I hope that the amount of motor fuel they can use is rationed. I hope that any vehicle they can buy has to get 500 miles to the gallon, etc. New Yorkers deserve to get what they voted for and get it good and hard.

Everything old is new again. Many moons ago I worked in a grocery store that only had paper bags. Then one day this brilliant ones came up with the program to ‘save the trees.’ Paper or plastic was born. Most people I know reuse the plastic bags over and over and over. Paper bags are back! Did you know that those reusable canvas tote bags now being pushed are a major source of bacteria? I’m sure Utopia is just within reach.

I don't blame you for feeling that way, but NY is really two states; "upstate" NY is pretty much like Ohio or Tennessee, somewhat right of center, with pockets of liberals in the cities. NYC, Long Island, and the NYC and Albany bedroom counties are hard left, and they outnumber the "upstate" population.

NYS is hemorraging taxpayers, jobs, and House seats and Albany is worried about plastic bags.

I like the old paper bags, this try to ask for me at the grocery. They come in handy around the house too. The plastic bags are also useful, just different uses, but when given a choice, I like the paper ones.

But that argument is not valid for gun laws... Hippocracy at its finest.

All that will happen here is that some entrepreneur will come up with a 1,000-bag container that you keep in the back of your car, and when entering the grocery....you will tote ten of them into the store with you.

Thats just a modest start as to what I’d like to see them get.

Ban plastic bags; bring millions of America-hating non-Americans into the country; take more money from the America-lovers through taxes and give it to the America-haters. That’s what cuuuuuoomo is all about.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. In the old days, it was paper bags. Now we’re going back there and the tree huggers are going to scream.

Liberalism is stupidity.
