George Soros Backed ACLU Investing in District Attorney Races as Path for Criminal Justice Reform

The American Civil Liberties Union, backed by millions in funding from billionaire Democratic donor George Soros, is investing resources and applying organizational muscle in local district attorney races in 2018.

The ACLU is among a variety of organizations working to elect prosecutors willing to jumpstart a laundry list of criminal justice reforms, including an overhaul of the pretrial bail bond system. It received a $50 million grant from Soros’ Open Society Foundations in 2014.

These and other groups want to end “zero tolerance” and “tough-on–crime” approaches which, they argue, have increased incarceration rates for mainly non-violent, minority offenders at a time when crime rates have been declining.

“Electing prosecutors who are, perhaps, less punitive and more willing to take a more sophisticated (approach) on what works can be a very positive step forward,” said John Pfaff, a law professor at Fordham University.

Now, in this year’s elections, the organization is planning voter education and outreach campaigns in district attorney races in California, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Vermont and possibly North Carolina and Missouri.

Soros-funded super PACs and advocacy groups have helped elect a growing number of progressive district attorneys who now serve metro areas such as Chicago, Denver, Houston, Philadelphia and Orlando. And it’s looking to add more in 2018.

In Chicago, these policies are being implemented by an unqualified and incompetent prosecutor, Kim Foxx (D), and the results have been predictably bad. The crime rate is sky-rocketing as arrested criminals are released and are free to commit more and more crimes.

This is why it should be illegal for campaign fiance funds to cross state lines/districts.

Only people represented by the politician should fund him

Criminal Justice Reform that will lead to more school shootings if they are lucky. Then they think they’ll have more ammo for getting rid of the 2nd.

Even if there aren’t more school shootings, more thugs on the street means more call for the government to protect people and a need for bigger government.

This is probably a very bad optic for the Democrats and it’s likely to continue to be that way. They can’t seem to get much money from elsewhere and this person has been bankrolling them more and more in recent years.

What do they get? Support for “sanctuary city” status; slack policing of drug dealers and other felons who may be minorities; Easing of sentencing of convicted minorities; building a grass roots farm team for future candidates to higher office; looking the other way when electoral or voter fraud is perpetrated; left wing voices to be interviewed on local news programs; local power base for organizing for congressional candidates this Fall.

Rahm Emanuel is fond of defending his leftist policies and deflecting criticism by claiming his views reflect “Chicago values.”
