Gowdy & Goodlatte Call for Special Counsel on FISA (truncated)
Fox News Insider ^ | Mar 6, 2018 | As seen on Special Report with Bret Baier

Posted on 03/06/2018 6:19:05 PM PST by FreeReign

wo top House Republicans repeated their call for a special counsel to look into alleged abuse of the FISA process, in the way a warrant was granted to spy on a former Trump adviser based on an unverified dossier with Russian sourcing.

Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, who chairs the oversight committee, and Bob Goodlatte of Virginia, who chairs the judiciary committee, said Attorney General Jeff Sessions must appoint a special counsel.

The two men said they have faith in Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz to do a thorough job in the matter, but note that he doesn't have jurisdiction over two dozen important witnesses.

Gowdy said the IG can compel testimony mostly from people who currently work in the department.

“Plenty of time for a midterm October surprise...”

These guys didn’t just fall off the turnip truck - no way they fail to notice the election coming up in November. They have to be considering how to time things to have the most impact on the election - they know that Mueller is doing that (Manafort’s trial is set for 16 September).

The IG’s report is due in April, but he may drop a few. If the IG recommends criminal investigation, I don’t see how the AG could avoid assigning a prosecutor. Separately, when the oversight committees with jurisdiction direct an investigation, as they are doing, with irrefutable facts and logic, as they are doing, I don’t see how the AG ignores that (only perhaps if the IG investigation claims to clear everyone of wrongdoing).

So I think that it is likely that folks are just getting things as best prepared as they can (building a case, vetting the team that will handle it), because they have an absolute, unavoidable duty to investigate and prosecute this wide-ranging, high-level misconduct. They know that there is going to be a firestorm, so they have to have their case nailed up tight - and they have to time it so that the main charges explode in October.

“The Treasonistas:”

The FISA judges themselves are suspiciously the dogs that didn’t bark, after FBI misconduct was revealed. Maybe they were in on it, or are derelict in their duty out of cowardice, and need to be removed.

You said a lot that I’ve been thinking. Timing is crucial in politics, and we’re seeing groundwork being laid now. Trotting the big-name deep-state thugs up to take the 5th before a grand jury is best left closer to election day.

“if the IG investigation claims to clear everyone of wrongdoing”

The IG only has jurisdiction to investigate the people who still work for the DOJ. This excludes all the Obama people who already left or were fired.

Read what Gowdy said. The IG can only nail the low level career bureaucrats who are still there. That’s why a special counsel must be appointed.

From CTH comments section:

G. Combs says: --- March 6, 2018 at 10:15 pm

“….Wondering why the AG didn’t figure this out for himself before appointing Horowitz?….” --------

ERRrrr, Sessions did not appoint Horowitz. he is a left over from Obama who had his hands tied by the Obama Admin. so he could not do his job.

Check out Michael Horowitz’s statement before the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs concerning “Improving the Efficiency, Effectiveness, and Independence of Inspectors General”

___

Long story short.

IG Horowitz is one P.O.d dude… Talk about COLD ANGER! It has been smolderring for years.

“The IG’s report is due in April”

What happened to Jan or Feb?

The release is always six weeks away.

If anyone has not seen the piece Mark Levin did on Hannity last week they should...

____________

It was a great article.

Also from this thread's article:

Gowdy said the IG can compel testimony mostly from people who currently work in the department.

That rubric leaves out former FBI Director Jim Comey, outgoing Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, Comey Chief of Staff James Rybicki, Clinton adviser Sid Blumenthal and others.

Only if all the staff are conservatives who donated to Trump. After all it would only be fair!

The libs would love to apply the same arguments to limit Horowitz’s subject matter jurisdiction as should be the case for Mueller. However, Horowitz’a jurisdiction is not limited by any subject matter as long as he confines his inquiry within the DOJ.

SO now we know the reason why Trump didn’t fire anyone from the FBI and CIA.

Strategery at work.

Sessions is not fighting anything. His justice department extended the fisa warrant using the Steele dossier as evidence.

You know, the same dossier that claimed that Trump paid Russian hookers to pee on a hotel bed. Session’s deputy presented this as evidence to the secret fisa court not expecting the facts to come out.

Sessions was unmasked as a backstabing traitor weeks ago by Nunes but I guess some people didnt read the memo.

I agree with you. But it has to not just be on FISA. It has to start there for sure and follow all the way through from that point on, and it should suck in most of all the leaders in the deep state. Including the Clintons, Podesta, Kerry et al.
