Florida Republicans Caving on Gun Control
The Truth About Guns ^ | 03/07/18 | Luis Valdes

Posted on 03/07/2018 10:33:36 AM PST by Simon Green

Since February 26, 2018; I’ve been on the ground here in Tallahassee fighting the forces of civilian disarmament. It’s been an uphill battle thanks to the Florida Republican Party. On Feb. 21, SB 7026 was introduced to the Florida Senate. It’s a wicked piece of legislation.

It makes anyone that possess a bump stock or similar accessory a felon. It completely violates the due process of gun owners through Gun Violence Protection Acts, it strips the Second Amendment from all Floridians under the age of 21, makes a three-day waiting period mandatory for all gun purchases, and it pushes the false narrative that to fix the failure of government; more government is needed.

It pushes a $400 million boondoggle that puts more school resource officers in schools when we already know that when seconds count, the police are minutes away and furthermore; it goes against the idea of ending gun free zones.

This is what is being pushed by Governor Rick Scott, Senate President Joe Negron, and House Speaker Richard Corcoran. All of them are Republicans and all of them shot down Senator Baxley’s bill that would make Campus Carry legal for all teachers and staff with a CCW permit and end gun free zones.

Lastly, instead of letting teachers and staff be armed through their CCW permits, it creates a system that requires more firearms training than what Florida Law Enforcement is required to have and it makes it voluntary in that the School Board must allow it; not the teachers themselves. So the School Boards for counties like Miami-Dade, Broward, Leon, and Orange for sure will never allow their teachers and staff be to armed in the first place.

I hope they will be able to derail those stupid proposals at one level or another. If not, I’d like to see a mindless and symbolic law with a sunset date. Make sure freedom loses as little ground as possible and that it regains that ground. Make America’s enemies replay the Vietnam War - fighting the same battle for the same hill over and over.

Tell that to those living in blue states whose "assault weapon" bans have survived court challenges.

Already went through the Senate. It’s in the House today.

The house is out only hope. Senate already rubber stamped. I let them know they have lost my support for future elections if this disaster is passed. We’ll have senator Nelson again and less republicans in office. What difference does it make? None from my vantage point.

The age restriction will probably fail a Constitutional challenge, or, at least it should. And it only applies to purchases from a licensed dealer. Private sales, gifts, etc., do not apply, nor where those less than 21 are law enforcement, military, CCW holder (same provisions) or completion of hunter safety/firearm safety training. Bump stock, though I don’t support the ban, is what it is at this point. Allowing school boards to decide whether to permit teachers to be armed under the “Guardian Act” is at least at the level of government it should be...local. Of course not all school boards will approve; it will probably be along rural/urban lines, but that will still be a significant number that will permit. The confiscation of firearms by a judge’s order based on Baker Act, or similar provisions, is bad news and should be a non-starter. As I’m listening to the Representatives making their pitches on the floor, I’m stunned at the ignorance and/or reliance on “feelings” or having to “do something” that they crafted this legislation. Decisions based on emotion are rarely good decisions...especially when it comes to rights.

I'm hoping that's right. I did just send an email to the Gov just in case.

Those damned Republicans are going to LOSE the majority because of their cowardice and spaghetti spines! Donald Trump is the best thing to come down the pike since Ronald Reagan and I would hate to see his agenda go in the crapper and have the loons in charge again. Is there anyone with an R by their name that has the gumption to see this and call it out???? I can count on my hand the number who feel the same way some of us do and try to expose the danger we face if we lose but they’re shouted down. President Trump can’t do this by himself and I hope there are brave men and women out there that will run against these establishment Republicans, Ryan and McTurtle to name a couple and help the President get this country back to being great again and a place where justice applies to not just the few but to ALL!!!!!!

SHAME ON THOSE AR 15’S
FOR WHAT HAPPENED AT THE PARKSIDE SCHOOL BLAME GUNS
PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT POLICIES FAILURES MUST BE HIDDEN
The inability to counter this perverted agenda created by the democratic party ( in name only) goose stepping adherents in the media and must be contested. So they make up it is guns and the NRA garbage through their swill mills

DON’T MENTION THIS
A dramatic reduction in disciplinary incidents at Parkside were reported after the selection of Obama’s Chicago friend as school superintendent occurred which was publicly acclaimed.and was receiving large grant from Obama’s Attorney General because of those results. That many critics claimed encouraged criminal activity. Which should require Trump Administration US Attorney General beside find out why when the FBI knew that Cruz should not be able to purchase weapons did. And review these grant programs instituted by the previous Obama administration.
