What is most disturbing is that they believe they’re intellectually superior. Anyone that doesn’t agree with them is “an idiot”. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve seen the obviousness of their underlying thought, “if you just knew what I know then you’d agree with me”. It is so arrogant. It doesn’t even dawn on them that the same could be said in reverse. As Reagan said, they know so much that just isn’t so.
I also think they hate Trump because he is proving them wrong in so many ways. He is revealing liberals to the be the shallow, empty, close-minded hypocrites that they are. He is proving that the Democrats don’t care about solutions but that they prefer to whine about campaign issues instead (DACA, gun control, etc.). His open-minded meetings with groups about DACA and gun control is a brilliant strategy. Trump is demonstrating that the Democrats have never had any idea of how to stimulate an economy (other than wasted “stimulus” programs). And, finally, he is actually working to enforce laws that the Democrats have conveniently ignored to pander to their base. Many of these “progressives” are about to get locked up or revealed to be the hypocrites that they are.
I believe the attitude about Trump is the same thing that spawned the distaste in the general public for the Boy Scouts.
How dare we take our young men and teach them to follow a set of values that have served the people of this country since its inception?
What is the purpose of an oath to do one’s duty to God and one’s country, to help other people, and keep one’s self physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. (And no, morally straight means following a moral code, it never had anything to do with homosexuality).
Trump apparently was not in the Boy Scouts himself, but he is aiming to bring back these values as stated in the Scout Law (and the Scout Oath paraphrased above:
What is wrong about our kids learning about being: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave Clean and Reverent?
And indeed, this should apply to our girls as well, but most certainly the young men needed to learn it first. Girls were invited to participate with the Explorer Scouts.
To the people who nearly destroyed the BSA over their resistance to homosexual scoutmasters and girls in the organization — Trump represents a huge setback for their movement.

I got the impression that a lot of their criticism of Bush was revenge for our legitimate criticisms of Beelzebubba.

The answer is a bit surprising.
The Left power brokers always knew Obama’s plan of weaponizing the Gov, writing “laws” thru Executive Order and using the MSM as a platform to move public opinion was vulnerable.
This is why they gambled and threw everything into getting Hillary elected.
She would have given Holder a Supreme Court seat and placed key Obama people in the UN, State Dept and EPA.
This would create a unbreakable wall around Obama, Clinton and the DNC for the next 40 years.
Now they must do everything they can to keep the American Voter from realizing what they did and avoid their dream from total collapse.
There is NO alternative...they must fight or loose everything.
Like during the GM bailout, Obama punished Republican car dealers, but on a wider scale.
