Mantis with stereo shades.
I like these “guys”.
The analysis just says that the Mantis appears to have 3D vision.
That does not undermine TToE even the tiniest bit. It just says that is how the Manis evolved.
It is just a strawman argument: “The Mantis evolved differently therefore TToE must be false.”
Also, it does not address the fact that there are probably billions of unexplored insects who may or may not have stereo vision.
Unique features in a species have no meaning, one way or the other.
Yet another lame ICR article saying “we can’t perfectly explain X under cherry-picked conditions, therefore God!”
ICR would do well to learn humility, including that a couple pages written to summarize the totality of creation & explain it to goat herders prooooobably isn’t grounds for perfectly understanding detailed development of biology. ESPECIALLY if we’re just figuring out now that mantises have 3D vision.
Preying Mantis`s evolved from very large aliens who landed here millions of years ago and were eaten by dinosaurs except for two, Adamantis and his wife Evemantis. Together they started what is known now as the Preying Mantis family. The aliens` original stereoscopic eye system did not evolve any further due to the fact that it was already perfect.
Meet the Appletons!
“...as the part of the image that is moving is the same, this is what the mantis zeroes in onsomething humans cant do.”
Actually, humans have very good neural processing when it comes to detecting motion. Not as good as most raptors, but still quite good.
“Interestingly, in the vast world of insects, the only creature to have stereo vision is the praying mantis. “
Not exactly true. Many insects, flies, for example, have overlapping fields of view which allows for some depth perception.
Again, not having found a common ancestor doesn’t mean it didn’t exist.
Eyes in front of the head usually means a predator...compare shark vs. flounder, eagle vs. robin, tiger vs. rabbit.
The compound eyes of the bee come to mind as well.
