President Donald Trump has agreed to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un by this May, South Korea's national adviser announced at the White House Thursday evening. He had briefed the president on a message from Kim earlier in the day.
The South Korean envoy said that in his recent talks with Kim, the North Korean leader had expressed an eagerness to meet with Trump as soon as possible.
He said that Kim had said he was committed to denuclearization, suspending more missile tests, and had agreed that U.S.-South Korean joint military exercises the North objects to must continue.
The dramatic disclosure came after Trump told reporters Thursday afternoon to expect a major announcement from South Korea.
That word from the president comes after a South Korean delegation met with top national security officials at the White House complex earlier in the day.
After Trump ducked into the White House briefing room to tease the announcement, ABC News' Jonathan Karl ran into Trump himself who told Karl the announcement was going to be a big deal.

Make as deal that gives South Korea and US inspectors unfettered access to all parts of North Korea. Maybe Kim will comes to his senses and realize there is no future in threatening other nations, and then begin moving toward normalized relations with SK, and maybe eventual reunification.
I can’t believe that everyone in NK is stark raving mad and wants their nation to continue on the course it’s been on for a few decades now.
The guest bitches on CNN could not be more hateful towards Trump. A major change in the world and these sick communists could not even be happy that maybe nuclear war has been prevented. I could not change the channel fast enough.

You could also be correct. I certainly would not trust most of North Korea’s leadership.
Unfortunately the losers in any “deal” will be the North Korean people, since Kim will just continue to run his country-sized concentration camp without outside interference.
The State Department is worse than useless, they are Anti-American to the core.

My guess is they will run with: “It will be impossible to verify! North Korea is just tricking us again!” (They will leave out the part where all previous presidents, notably Clinton in 1994, were the ones tricked in the first place).
I noticed they tried out a different narrative in the lead up to the announcement: “WH is in chaos, confused! Trump never told anyone! He kept it to himself and this was a total surprise to everybody!”
