Everything has been choreographed down to the second by underlings who have parsed every word in the key points of discussion through a long series of pre-meetings. Both principals will be fully briefed on the agreed points and matters for further negotiation. Every alternative has a prescribed counter-point and nothing is left to chance.
Yes, I know Trump prides himself on negotiation skills but he also uses the talent around him to maximum effect in achieving the final goals of the negotiation. Because the underlings have done the scut work, the principals can work at a higher level to achieve the best advantage for their position. Trump won’t let the underlings paint him into a corner or keep him from a strategic pivot when doing so achieves something of higher value.
It is high risk only if Trump goes into the summit believing he can’t leave without a deal. Any deal. A deal for the sake of a deal.
