Ahha. Found it. It’s called General Assistance.

General assistance may be offered as well. This includes rent and utility assistance for low income individuals and the working poor. Any money is paid directly to your landlord or utility company. Vouchers for basic needs may be offered too. Also look into Medi-Care, Food Stamps, Healthy Families, Medi-Cal, and other public aid.

All those free needles just thrown away like that. I’m surprised littering in that quantity is legal in California.

General assistance

Hmmm... that's a new one on me. For 10 years I have served as an intake interviewer for a local non-profit Food Bank/etc. here in SC. Most of the folks I talk with are on some kind of assistance. But General Assistance? Never came across that one.

Interesting.

They get bonuses based on how many people they can sign up, I think. I used to not understand how EBT card people could buy grocery store items I couldn’t afford until I got signed up, ever so briefly.

California has a welfare program for everyone.....except the ones paying for it.

For on brief moment, California faces its future.

There’s much more of this ahead.

I would like to point out that Orange County did a very nice job cleaning this mess up. It stretched through many cities, since the river bed forms a natural boundary. MANY jurisdictions were involved, coordinating the effort was a Herculean task, and various do gooders and rights groups fought every step of the way in court, against this action. At the end of the line stood a Federal judge who issued injunctions against most common sense responses, to this disaster. Certainly this latest round of action will serve as no panacea but compared the the estimated 50,000 plus homeless up the freeway in LA, and who knows how many people in SF, this represents a nice return to civilized standards. Thank you.

Two questions:

Besides a motel where did al lthe homeless go to?

Who is the poor guy who had to count the needles?

Well, I do know they have created a lot of shelters, this past year. Public works did the yeoman task of cleaning up the area so presumably they did the counting. Thanks.

I fled CA (Santa Cruz lol) for Denton TX about 7 years ago.

I remain quite pleased with my desicion.

I’m proud to call myself a Texan, transplant or not.
