As bullets fly, Chicago police boss blasts civilian oversight plans

Chicago's police superintendent on Saturday blasted efforts for greater civilian oversight of the department, citing "real progress" in fighting crime -- just hours after at least eight people were reportedly wounded in overnight shootings.

Hours later, two men were slain on the city's South Side, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Proposals by the city's leading community organizations call for greater oversight by a seven-member civilian board called the Commission for Public Safety and Accountability, the Chicago Tribune reported.

But Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said no one consulted him or anyone in the CPD for the year and a half it was conceptualized.

“We're in the middle of a serious crime fight, and we're finally making real progress, so I don’t know how you can turn over crime strategy and every policing decision to some group of people who have absolutely no law enforcement experience,” Johnson said.

n January, Fox News reported that murders had declined in the city in 2017 compared with 2016, dropping to 650 kilings from a two-per-day total of 771. Police credited so-called ShotSpotter technology -- consisting of cameras and detection radars deployed in neighborhoods -- for helping to reduce crime.

This year, shooting deaths have included the Feb. 13 slaying of Chicago police Commander Paul Bauer, who was shot multiple times while pursuing a suspect.

"Hours later, two men were slain on the city's South Side."

That says it all. Liberals don't like the scrutiny of an oversight board in their city but love them when the Republicans are running thiungs.

Chicongo is becoming another Detroit. Downtown stores employ private security, not to combat theft but just to try to keep people safe.

Police credited so-called ShotSpotter technology -

I credit it to running out of thugs.......Maybe they should implement a bag limit.

Liberals want to handcuff the police and keep them from doing their jobs.

Oh wait - I thought those same liberals told us to trust the police to protect us.

You mean they don’t? Never mind...

That, too, would be my guess. If they're going to have an oversight board, sprinkle it (heavily) with retired coppers. Chicago is a lost cause.

Downtown Chicago is perfectly safe. Never had a problem when I visited the city.

Its the west and south side tourists should shun.

You are a visitor. The crime in downtown and now on the Gold Coast is high.

Why would anyone visit the West or South side? Suicide.

“I don’t know how you can turn over crime strategy and every policing decision to some group of people who have absolutely no law enforcement experience,” Johnson said.

But, it’s the Community Organizer way. The One from Chicago: Obama’s way. Has he learned nothing from Chicago’s Messiah?

I sure hope Barry steps in to straighten out this Eddie cop guy.

Politicians don’t want any competition for the money from their protection racket.

Of course no one consulted him. He’s hung out to dry as happens in Chicago.
He is just the latest police Superintendent who will be made the the newest fall guy for the daily slaughter in Rahm Emmanuel’s democrat run Chicago.

“we’re finally making real progress, so I don’t know how you can turn over crime strategy and every policing decision to some group of people who have absolutely no law enforcement”

Or vetting. This could be the key sentence in this entire article. If the police are being successful there are outside sources that do not want success for variety of reasons. One is that they have a vested interest in criminal activity, and that could possibly be why they want inside information so they can pass along to their cohorts and stymie any effort to eradicate crime in the windy city. It’s probably big money at stake if this is a correct assessment.

Spot shot would work, if you had an adequate number of cops to react quickly. That’s not possible in Chicago.

Eventually, someone will stand up and suggest that firing the city council (mostly all Democrats) and going with GOP guys might be the answer, but you’d have to accept stop-and-frisk.

I grew up on the south side. Around 98th and Commercial. I’ve been gone thirty years. I can’t imagine why anyone stays.
