What Is Novichok, the Poison that Nearly Killed a Russian Ex-Spy?
Novichok, which means "newcomer" in Russian, is a Soviet-era class of nerve agents that was created in the 1970s and 1980s as an attempt to get around the Chemical Weapons Treaty, according to "Responding to Terrorism: A Medical Handbook," published in 2010. That's because the treaty banned chemical weapons that have a certain chemical structure, and Novichok has a different structure.

Despite this structural difference, Novichok agents act like other nerve agents by binding to and inactivating cholinesterase, an enzyme that the nervous system uses to communicate with muscles.

"The reason you die from these [nerve agents] is very simple," said Dr. Lewis Nelson, chairman of emergency medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, who is not involved with the Skripals' treatment. "If your muscles don't work you can't breathe, and if you can't breathe you eventually die."

The weaponisation of any chemical is banned under the 1997 Chemical Weapons Convention, of which Moscow is a signatory. The Salisbury attack was to be raised in closed door sessions of the OPCW’s executive council when it begins three days of meetings in The Hague on Tuesday.

Whats the proof? All I’ve seen is hunches, and Teresa May the psychopath says “it’s likely it was Russia”. I think it’s more likely -this- guy might have been Michael Steele’s “Russian source” for the dossier and our intel world put out a hit on him! There could be all kinds of reasons to rub him out that aren’t Russian and thats a glaringly obvious one. His era of spying was during the Michael Steele era of active British service. Id bet a paycheck those two are connected.

Also, this makes no sense. It was 15 years ago that he was a turncoat, and the guy was arrested, and served time in in prison in Russia for that treason against his country, then was released at some point. Why not just kill him when he was there if that was going to happen??

We are being sold a bill of goods here.

Stop making sense. Euro shills need another excuse for new sanctions before Russian elections. That is the only thing important. You shouldn’t question their version.

As Werner Klemperer once said on “Hogan”s Heroes” you will be “court martialed, shot and sent to the Russian Front”.

The callers on Nigel Farage’s radio show were incredulous not trusting what their own government is saying.

One even blamed MI 6 although Nigel was not taking any of the baiting of the callers more willing to believe Russia’s involvement but not committing to any specific response.

OMG.........

There are people out there that want trouble with Russia and this is being done deliberately right before the Russian presidential election on March 18th just like Ukraine was done during the Sochi Olympics in 2014.

A false flag in Syria wouldn’t work so why not try one in England. Much more effective......

Halogenation of drugs tends to lead to more potent compounds. IMHO, a halogenated organophosphate is a very scary compound.

The substance was developed in Soviet Union times, and in these times, scientists in research labs were from both Russia and Ukraine.

Cui bono? (for whose benefit?) - Ukrainian scientists probably did this under the direction of the Ukrainian government, since Russia has nothing to gain from this and Ukraine has everything to gain.

I think what you have is some rogue group within Russia, with a vendetta listing of payback situations. This could have been done with a simple ISIS-thug paid to go and knife the guy on some street. But no, there’s some message tied to this....meant to be bigger-than-life and hint of a massive capability.

Putin probably has people reviewing this and they will admit to him that the poison is no longer controlled and that various characters are now a potential threat. So the question is....does Putin go out and exterminate a couple hundred people, or does he take the blunt punishment that the UK and the EU will dish out? Will Trump attach himself to the UK solution as well?

Wow! Some guy on a phone-in said it was MI6. That’s definitely nailed it. Any chance you can find some other guy to phone in the details on the Kennedy assasination?

Sometimes, POWs were shot through their hands. From day-one, I didn't find anything in "Hogan's Heroes" to laugh at.
