Orange County California voted to bypass state rules and work with the federal government and ICE officials.

And on Monday the Orange County Sheriff’s Department announced it will publicly post inmates’ release dates in order to assist ICE agents.

In response to this California Attorney General Xavier Becerra threatened to arrest Orange County Sheriff for holding criminal illegal aliens for ICE officers.

Attorney General Xavier Becerra: State law is state law. And it is my job to enforce state law. I will do so. And we want to make sure that every jurisdiction including Orange County, understand what state law requires of the people and the sub divisions of the state of California.

Reporter: Does that mean a lawsuit of the sheriff’s department or the arrest of the sheriff?

Xavier Becerra: I think I just answered that.

When I saw the results from this Bezerkly poll on the subject, I knew that day would be coming very fast. The OC Sheriff is right where he needs to be. The AG is just another Marxist swamp monster about to be slayed.

The poll results indicate Californians across the political spectrum and among all major ethnic groups oppose sanctuary city policies. The policy of ignoring federal detainer requests was opposed by 73 percent of Democrats, 82 percent of Republicans and 71 percent of independents, according to UC Berkley.

A sheriff, like most other law enforcement officers, swears to uphold the law. But the assumption is that the law is there to protect the citizens. Probably somewhere else in the oath is a statement similar to “serve and protect.” The California law does not serve or protect the citizens. The forbiddance to notify ICE and the subsequent return to the streets of dangerous offenders harms the citizens. The law should be ruled unconstitutional (in normal courts.)

If the sheriff plays this right, he may parley this bit of (we’ll call it civil disobedience) to a higher state office, perhaps governor. At some point there may come a political tipping point where liberalism is kicked out. Of course, the longer the current situation drags on the more “conservative” votes will move away. This moves, or perhaps negates, the tipping point. How this eventually plays out will very much depend on timing and circumstances.
