Poll: Majority of Americans not seeing change in paychecks due to tax cuts

A majority of Americans is not yet seeing President Trump's tax cuts reflected in their paychecks, according to a new poll.

A CNBC All-America Economic Survey finds 52 percent of respondents say they haven't seen a change.

Just 32 percent of respondents report taking home more money due to the tax cuts, which Trump signed into law late last year.

Of that percentage, 38 percent say the extra pay they helps them a "great deal" or a "fair amount." Another 40 percent say the extra pay helps "some" or "just a little" and 22 percent report that the extra pay "does not help much at all."

The poll was conducted from March 17 to 20 among 800 Americans. Its margin of error is 3.5 percent.

The Treasury Department and IRS released new guidance earlier this year that adjusted the amounts that companies set aside from their employees' paychecks for federal taxes.

Employers were instructed to adopt the new withholding tables by Feb. 15.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has said that 90 percent of wage earners would see bigger paychecks due to the guidance.

I wonder what's going on here? "Just 32 percent of respondents report taking home more money due to the tax cuts." Are they so brainwashed that they cannot see that $1,100 is greater than $1,000? Did employers fail to update their withholding tables by February 15? Did employers do that intentionally or inadvertently?

Is this going to be a big problem during the summer and fall campaign season?

Why is this a poll item? It’s a “fact” item.

You have to be employed and pay federal taxes.

CNBC All-America Economic Survey

Looking at who conducted the poll tells me everything I need to know about the veracity of it.

Just wait till tax time next year.

Many are going to have to pay in, rather than get a refund.

I’ve seen a net 20 bucks increase.

However, I recently received a production bonus that was (to me) many, many crumbs.

Even after getting ripped on taxes, there was enough to do some things and take care of some large expenses that came up.

To hell with the liberal thieves.

I hope you didn’t believe the polls on 11/07/2016 that said Hillary had an 87 percent chance of winning. Same kind of poll here.

Ok then ask this question: “How many of you want to pay more taxes?”

Probably those with little to no withholding to begin with.

They obviously did not ask 100% of workers if they saw a hike in take-home pay. They had to do a sample of the population of workers. And they conducted a poll of the sample. So “poll” is correct.

No. These numbers are a lie. 100% of my employees are taking home more money thanks to the tax cut, as am I. I'm a widower so I file Single and really didn't expect to see anything but I'm still seeing about $220 more per month. The Hill can stuff this poll.

Agree

Unrelated: My sister just posted on FB “Praise God. I can go to the doctor. Jesus got me my tax refund money”.

I complained about the theology.

Well, I never saw the survey. Who here did? Also, it depends on how the questions were worded.

My TAX withholding went down, but other withholding (insurance and etc) went up.

Even so, I did see a slight increase in my take home pay.

LOL. I remember back when Obama was churning out his spending programs, the MSM couldn’t run enough anecdotal stories about how an average, middle class family was so happy that they got an extra $100 from something, or was able to use Cash for Clunkers, or whatever. The MSM went to great pains to explain how valuable $100 was to an “average” family. Now that the Republican / Trump tax cuts are resulting in massive inbound investment in US industry and bonuses to US workers, the MSM is doing its best to crap all over them as nothing.

Excellent point. Nowhere does the article say that they polled WORKING Americans who actually PAY TAXES, does it? It just says "The poll was conducted from March 17 to 20 among 800 Americans." They could have polled "working and tax-paying Americans."

Another clue: "CNBC All-America Economic Survey."
