St. Louis is no longer one of the top 20 largest metropolitan areas in the country. Newly released US Census Bureau numbers show the city's population declined by more than 4,500 people to just over 308,000 residents. That's the largest drop since the 2010 census.

The St. Louis region is now 21st on the list of the nation's metro areas.

The Baltimore area, which had been ranked 21st, swapped spots on the population list with the St. Louis region. The City of Baltimore saw a drop in population greater than St. Louis city, but Baltimore’s loss represented a 0.9 percent decrease, compared with a 1.4 percent loss in St. Louis.

The decline of St. Louis is a poverty on this Nation. St. Louis is a beautiful city, their park is one of the best I have been too. Went running there once with a fellow Marine and say numerous memorial statues and forums that had acting companies doing Shakespeare. The crime there now is prohibitive.

Years ago, St. Louis and Detroit was one of America’s most powerful cities next to New York City and Los Angeles.

Very sad.

I bet most of the decline in population is due to white middle class exodus.

Revoke their NFL franchise! Give it to San Antonio.

I don’t think the Ferguson riots helped St. Louis much.

However, it’s in the Top 20 cities in the world for murder. Number 13, to be exact.

Only US city in the top 20, which includes mostly Latin American hellholes, the Carribbean, and South Africa.

Do they even have one? Didn't the Rams move back to L.A.?

The population crash in upstate NY in the last sixty years is an amazing story—not well known.

Sad... I grew up in Chesterfield and Creve Coeur. Forest Park and Laclede’s Landing are no longer safe, even during the day. Definitely a Ferguson effect- loss of respect for private property, loss of empathy for anyone with a different color than you.

Hence the stupidity of Gov. Andrew Cuomo not allowing fracking to get at natural gas in the Marcellus Shale in upper New York State. Look at what fracking to get natural gas has done to eastern Ohio and Pennsylvania in terms of economic development; indeed, New York City is getting a lot of natural gas from Pennsylvania gas fields.

If a trolley clangs in St Louis, does it make a sound if there’s no one there to meet it?
