‘Chappaquiddick’: ‘Powerful People’ Pressured Studio Not to Release Film, CEO Says
Variety ^ | March 28,2018 | Ariana Brockington

“Chappaquiddick” tells the story of a relatively unknown scandal involving one of the most glorified families in American history: the Kennedys. So, it is not surprising that the cast, executive producers, and director felt some nerves taking on the project.

For Byron Allen, Entertainment Studios CEO and co-founder and executive producer of the film, the pushback to tell this story came when he first decided to produce the film. “Unfortunately, there are some very powerful people who tried to put pressure on me not to release this movie,” Allen said. “They went out of their way to try and influence me in a negative way. I made it very clear that I’m not about the right, I’m not about the left. I’m about the truth.”

The movie tells the story of what occurred in 1969 when Senator Ted Kennedy drove his car off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island in Martha’s Vineyard and the passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, was killed. At the Beverly Hills premiere and screening of the film at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater, Allen referred to Kopechne as “one of the original #MeToo victims” and said it was her time to receive justice and the truth.

My entire malleable childhood was formed by this event.
Then I had to watch this drunken pig be lionized by the Boston/national media.
This is why I am a Conservative.

About time people found out about what the ‘liberal lion” was really about. Its too bad they don’t also mention his collusion with Russia when they were our mortal enemy in the Cold War. Teddy K was nothing but a lying, murderous, traitorous scumbag. I’m sure Satan is roasting his black soul in Hell for eternity.

I was born in 1970, and while my mom and dad apparently proudly supported Carter in 1980 (they received a letter from the White House, signed by him), my mom was staunchly anti-Ted Kennedy, and taught me about Mary Jo Kopechne. The entire situation reminds me of this quote from "A Few Good Men" (edited below for, well, reasons). I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for S̶a̶n̶t̶i̶a̶g̶o̶ Mary Jo, and you curse the m̶a̶r̶i̶n̶e̶s̶ conservatives. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That S̶a̶n̶t̶i̶a̶g̶o̶ Mary Jo's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. It surely saved the United States from a Ted Kennedy presidency. And, for that, we owe her a truly irreparable debt.

Wow.. I clicked “Post” way too soon in the article.

“When asked if politicians today are held more accountable for their actions, Helms said, “What’s interesting is that politicians are only as accountable as they allow themselves to be or to the extent that they take responsibility for things.”

He added, “What’s really unnerving about the way Trump doesn’t take responsibility for things is that [it’s] hard to hold him accountable for those things.””

Trump not taking responsibility? For God’s sake Helms, Obama blamed Bush for 8 freakin’ years! And, Hillary is blaming the Russians! Are you jackin’ with me? For the love of all that’s holy man, take off the blinders and open your eyes, you’re only blind if you choose to be!

>>“Unfortunately, there are some very powerful people who tried to put pressure on me not to release this movie,” Allen said.

Where have I heard that before?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Path_to_9/11

...ABC received a range of criticism from terrorism experts and people portrayed in the film that The Path to 9/11 contained false scenes, distorted events and misrepresented actions of people, with ABC receiving letters from Richard Clarke, Chief Executive Officer Bruce R. Lindsey of the William J. Clinton Foundation, and Douglas J. Band, Counselor to President Clinton, Samuel R. Berger, Madeleine Albright, John Beug, Democratic Representatives John Conyers Jr., John Dingell, Jane Harman and Louise Slaughter and others...

Unauthorized removal and destruction of classified material

On July 19, 2004, it was revealed that the United States Department of Justice was investigating Berger for unauthorized removal of classified documents in October 2003 from a National Archives reading room prior to testifying before the 9/11 Commission. The documents were five classified copies of a single report commissioned from Richard Clarke covering internal assessments of the Clinton Administration’s handling of the unsuccessful 2000 millennium attack plots. An associate of Berger said Berger took one copy in September 2003 and four copies in October 2003, allegedly by stuffing the documents into his socks and pants.[19][20] Berger subsequently lied to investigators when questioned about the removal of the documents.[21]

In April 2005, Berger pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material from the National Archives in Washington.[22]

Berger was fined $50,000,[23] sentenced to serve two years of probation and 100 hours of community service, and stripped of his security clearance for 3 years.[21][24] The Justice Department initially said Berger stole only copies of classified documents and not originals,[25] but the House Government Reform Committee later revealed that an unsupervised Berger had been given access to classified files of original, uncopied, uninventoried documents on terrorism. During the House Government Reform Committee hearings, Nancy Kegan Smith — who was the director of the presidential documents staff at the National Archives and Records Administration — acknowledged that she had granted Berger access to original materials in her office.[26]

On December 20, 2006, Inspector General Paul Brachfeld reported that Berger took a break to go outside without an escort. “In total, during this visit, he removed four documents ... Mr. Berger said he placed the documents under a trailer in an accessible construction area outside Archives 1 (the main Archives building)”. Berger acknowledged having later retrieved the documents from the construction area and returned with them to his office.[27][28]

On May 17, 2007, Berger relinquished his license to practice law as a result of the Justice Department investigation. Saying, “I have decided to voluntarily relinquish my license. ... While I derived great satisfaction from years of practicing law, I have not done so for 15 years and do not envision returning to the profession. I am very sorry for what I did, and I deeply apologize.” By giving up his license, Berger avoided cross-examination by the Bar Counsel regarding details of his thefts.[29]

Throw him under what is left of the Dike Bridge, it was no more than 20-25 feet long. Edgartown is not exactly a hop, skip and a swim.

I will tell a stupid story. It is what I do.

Back in about ‘80 I was going to a Halloween costume party with my wife. She was pregnant and didn’t want to dress in an elaborate costume like we had the previous year at this party. I stumbled around and found a snorkel, mask and flippers for her, she put on a white loose dress and angel wings, I dawned a Ted Kennedy mask and we went a Mary Jo and Ted.

So funny though that Franken gets tossed out of the U.S. Senate for touching boobies, and we glorify Kennedy who killed his pregnant Secretary girlfriend in a one vehicle drunken wreck by letting her drown, and fleeing the scene.
