Actually, the greater Chicago area has a fairly substantial amateur hockey following, with multiple leagues, all playing levels, professional level rinks, etc.
For example: Johnny's IceHouse which runs some amateur leagues, uses the Blackhawks practice rink for their base of operations.
Looks like a lot of fun for all age groups.
I’m sure that a strong beer league presence wherever you find an NHL team is true throughout Canada, the northeast, and the upper mid-west. I bet Vegas and a number of the cities where hockey doesn’t belong either have to foot the bill for a third goalie who isn’t on roster or have to make do with inferior backups.
