Pain In The Pump: Gas Prices On The Rise

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The cost of gas is up across the country, including in Maryland, and is inching toward the highest price in three years.

Gas is going up about a penny every other day — 15 cents in the past month.

“We’ll be paying the highest prices for this time of year since 2014,” said Christine Delise with AAA.

Gas companies are changing over to a different summer blend. To do so, some refineries shut down, leading to the classic market principal of supply and demand. A tighter supply means they can demand more for your fuel.

Demand is up as people are driving more, and crude oil prices are up $15 per barrel compared to this time last year.

“Every time crude oil prices rise a dollar, consumers will pay roughly 2.4 cents more per gallon,” Delise said.

This week, the average price in marylMarylandxactly the same as the nationwide average of $2.67 a gallon.

That’s the truth! The refinery that supplies the fuel for us here on Canaduh’s west coast shut down for maintenance, and our fuel prices have gone utterly stupid.

$1.499 cdn per LITRE stupid, and that’s not even the worst of it: the provincial gov’t has raised the gas tax another penny and a half per litre, at the end of the month.

All we can do here is BOHICA.

$2.46 a gallon here according to Gas Buddy. Ask the people in Asia and Europe what they’re paying.

Over the last eight years three refineries within a half hour drive from me in the four corners have shut down
They are in the middle of a large oilfield. Makes no sense.

There is no shortage of refineries. If there was they’d be making mint and supply would be falling short of demand. Not saying a few more wouldn’t help but the single biggest component of retail gas prices are taxes. After that it’s regulatory burden or the price of oil.

If you Factor in just taxes and inflation, gasoline is a historical low prices. Excluding the idiotic ethanol and botique gas blends because their is no accounting for stupid.

Here in Pennsylvania I’m paying nearly .70/gal. in TAXES.
So it’s kind of hard to yell at Exxon.

Just looked up inflation adjusted prices but including taxes. Same price as 1925. adjust for taxes and gas is cheap cheap.

Imagine how cheap it could be without governmemt interference.

But blaming the oil companies is popular here. So is the idea of not exporting oil or gas.
