Syracuse, NY -- A Syracuse University student, who had stockpiled ammunition and gun accessories in his downtown apartment, was stopped before carrying out threats of a mass shooting, city police revealed today.
Xiaoteng Zhan, 22, was deported back to China by federal agents March 20 as he returned to Syracuse from spring break in Mexico, Syracuse Deputy Police Chief Derek McGork said.
Zhan told a friend that the "dark side" had pushed him to buy a gun, bulletproof vest and other items, McGork said, reading from an English translation of their messages.
"I might use the gun to cause trouble," Zhan said, adding, "I have been preparing."
When his alarmed friend begged him not to shoot children or kill her, Zhan responded: "You're the only one I don't want to kill."

OK, so who has the gun? Was there actually a gun? An AR 15 is still out there thinking about it?
It’s a little harder to sneak in from China than from Mexico.

Syracuse University has as huge population of Chinese students, somewhere around 1,500 at any one time.
Yet another person who is very lucky to not be a US citizen.

Some details seem to be left out.....was he hospitalized? How long in Mexico? Are his friends in Mexico still there? Syracuse quickly expels him? How does that work? Johnny on the spot with visa revocation? That’s unusual. Immediately deported?? That’s really unusual

Chinese have been coming in through Mexico in droves over the last five or so years. Used to be Canada. That’s changed
What about non US citizens coming to the US on hunting trips?
I assume the Mexico angle only had to do with spring break. I’m just glad everyone acted quickly to get the guy out of the country.
