Trump Testing China? President Gives Taiwan License to Buy American Submarines
Newsweek via Yahoo ^ | April 8th, 2018 | Greg Price

President Donald Trump’s administration approved the license necessary for American firms to sell Taiwan the technology needed to build its own submarines, while Trump continued his apparent trade war with China.

Taiwan’s Central News Agency first reported the approval Saturday, according to Reuters, stating the Southeast Asian nation’s defense minister, Chen Chung-Chi, confirmed the State Department’s go-head.

An unnamed State Department official told Reuters that its policy toward American-Taiwan defense trade was “consistent” with previous administrations.

“Our longstanding policy on defense sales to Taiwan has been consistent across seven different U.S. administrations,” the official said. “This policy has contributed to the security of Taiwan and also supported the maintenance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”

Taiwan announced a year ago that it planned to build eight new submarines just prior to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to meet with Trump in Florida for the first time.

Despite the State Department’s assertion, the report of the U.S. government essentially helping Taiwan obtain such defense technology comes as Trump has placed heavy tariffs on Chinese goods worth billions of dollars.

The headline is misleading. Taiwan will build them with technology from Electric Boat.

That's still a very big deal.

And it shows POTUS intent on demonstrating to the Chinese that the US is back in the arena, willing to use all facets of US power to further US interests. We are not going to play fair, or by the rules, anymore.

A monumental step forward.

Trump should also working on setting up AA batteries in eastern Europe again. Putin scared Bush out of that Romanian deal. Not long after, Russians roll into Crimea. So much for acquiescing to Russian demands.

Finishing up “American Caesar” a book on MacArthur. He wanted to use Taiwanese forces in the Korean war. Politicians(+ JCOS) didn’t want to expand the war even though Chinese attacked from Manchuria. Plus there were those ‘volunteers’ that entered the North.

Taiwan Strait was being Patrolled by the American fleet. An invasion in response was unlikely, according to MacArthur. The Vietnamese ‘standoff’ in 1979 showed the Chinese are not what they were cut out to be. They’re a wealthier nation now.

Long past time to give China some push back!

Time to deal with the ABSOLUTE INSANITY of US and European corporations selling their souls for a piece of a Chinese market in which the STATE is the only entity capable of purchasing much of the resultant production. A study of the flow of ever larger container vessels makes it clear that almost ALL of the “stuff” utilizing that FREELY GIVEN TECH winds up here or in Euorpe. The “paranoid” suspicion of this old “Bircher” is that it is a major component of the globalist plan to make us so INTERDEPENDENT that their lusted for One World is simply birthed into existence as a result.
While we may already be too far ‘round the bend to reverse what’s coming, there will be large numbers of folks who will resist until they can no longer do so. And, yes, it’s highly likely that a majority would become witting or unwitting collaborators in this purely evil plan - modern Vidkun Quislings! THEY should study history to learn how HE and his wife wound up!
The scenario that REALLY should scare hell out of us all is we come down to a REAL WAR with these folks only to learn that multiple “One World Interdependence” Democrat and, yes, Republican administrations permitted - even ENCOURAGED - production of spare/replacement parts for much of our formerly robust “war machine” to be relocated to China or one of her allies.
In how many languages can one say “SCREWED”?

“with technology from Electric Boat.”

Is ‘Electric Boat’ a corporation?

Electric Boat is the name of the division of General Dynamics that builds submarines.

I see. Thank you.
Amazing that a Electric Boat; divsion of such significance (National Security!!) has a generic, innocuous sort of name.
Maybe they didn’t want to draw much attention to it.

I remember seeing the Trident subs years ago on dry dock at the Groton Connecticut plant during assembly. Beautiful sight.

“We are not going to play fair, or by the rules, anymore.”

We are going back to MAKING the rules. The entire world relies on the USA for peace and prosperity. Why shouldn’t we be making the rules?

This is a solid blow to the Chicoms gut and ego. How about that! Bigger than the American public can even imagine. This just kicked that chicom puppetmaster in the teeth with a knife to his throat. A solid win. I suspect now they will direct rocket boy to get busy and retaliate and launch another trashcan rocket or they might seize another island-which will not be looked upon favorably by the neighborhood.

Excellent move Mr President.

The phrase “electric boat” (for a submersible powered by a battery of some sort) goes back to the mid-1800s. The Electric Boat Company was founded in 1899; the company became General Dynamics in the 1950s, but the submarine division was kept under the original name.
