FDR was right about that - and it was safer to pay people on make-work projects than have them sit on their arses plotting the overthrow of the system that idled them. On the other hand, FDR couldn’t possibly imagine a scenario where the government workforce itself is as massive and costly as it is today.

Goal #2: Only basic staple food can be bought with food stamps. No cash back. Ever

No matter how it is handed out, a significant percentage of recipients of the freebies will always sell the (stamps/cards/food/whatever) at a discount to others, so that the hand-outs are thus converted to cash (usually finding its way to the nearest drug dealer in short order). We merely streamlined and normalized the process by putting it into cards.

I agree with you about only staple food being eligible, but who determines the definition of basic staple food?
_____________

That could be easily determined. Really.

ES!
I am so happy President Trump has embraced this idea. Us on the right have been saying this for years.

It is truly a win-win for everyone.

Instead of blowing the SNAP Card on Booze and Smokes you would get a monthly supply of:

50 lbs Bag of Red Beans & Rice

50 lbs Bag of Flour

10 lbs Bag of Powdered Milk

10 lbs Block of Cheese

10 lbs Bologna Log

And just because us Americans are super generous, I propose we also include two 10 lbs Bags of Generic Cheerios and/or USDA Corn Flakes.

There, the poor have just been fed by the Taxpayer.

They are stuck eating beans and rice you say? Think of it this way, every cent you give to the Federal Food Program is bread taken from your Child’s mouth.

But of course you aren’t suppose to take into account the needs of the people who actually pay for all this.
_______________

I think you would have to allow for diabetics here. Some cheap ground meat and frozen low carb vegetables.

Improving employment outcomes and economic independence, including by strengthening existing work requirements and introducing new ones. Promoting “strong social networks” to escape poverty, “including through work and marriage.” Addressing populations that “may particularly struggle to find and maintain employment (including single parents, formerly incarcerated individuals, the homeless, substance abusers, individuals with disabilities, and disconnected youth).” Reducing wasteful spending by consolidating or eliminating federal programs that are duplicative or ineffective."

I am not trying to be flippant here, but has anyone ever considered sending the recipient essentially a W2 of the combined benefits, which is often north of 50k in a state like MA to maybe plant a spark that this is serious stuff? Maybe tax them on it?

FWIW, how many (especially women) have gifts and skills that would springboard them to a salary greater than that? From what I hear, women make better welders. They come in with no preconceived notions on how it is to be done and they have a better touch.

How many could make it to aerospace / nuclheer certs? I don't know, but can you fathom the rags to rices story that is?

As usual VSG PDJT is spot on and is about to do a turn around effort w/ un-common sense to these programs....

seems realy nothing new - just Trump giving them 90 days to make a report.

$$$$$ still bleeding out our sides to these welfare receivers in the mean time.

local food banks are partly subsidized by us govt or connect in ways that they do get us funds for food or food itself. Many church food banks I’ve looked into volunteering at are connected to govt monies too, it may be 2-3 steps away but if you look into it there are govt monies caught up in just about all of them. Some of the churches i looked into think it’s great they help same people for years and years with food boxes - I asked the pastors shouldnt they be getting off assistance. He was proud they handed out more and more food boxes. Good people blinded by the ways of evil to think they are actually helping when yet they are enabling and letting the problem get worse.

ridiculous. those foods are not healthy and would reward certain food companies. eating primarily those foods you’d likely be consitpated and end up with other health issues, imbalances in your body.

Nobody is forcing anyone to eat these foods. If people don’t like the choices they can get a job and buy what they want. The purpose of welfare is to keep people from starving...not to give them a healthy lifestyle.

after checking to make sure we are assisting the GENUINELY DISABLED enough... I want to help the genuinely disabled...I will pay taxes for this...

And increase the job training/education options for the genuinely disabled, in order to increase their chances of being able to work in spite of their disabilities. Someone who can't walk could still answer phones. Someone who can't hear can do bookkeeping, etc.

There are supposed to be programs like that now, but from my experience, they don't do what they advertise.

Check for multi-state recipients, too. What measures are taken to keep some Welfare Queen from applying for benefits in this state, that state and the two in between?

Welfare subsidizes bad conduct. Why not subsidize stable, two parent families?

He should allow states and cities to create economic development zones where the minimum wage is ZERO.

I've been saying that for years. It would be an excellent thing to do. In addition, these zones could include "piece work" jobs where people can come in and do work paid by their productivity. They could work as long or as short a time as they like.

FDR at least had the WPA, Works Progress Administration if I remember correctly what my parents told me. People who had no job worked at things like building parks etc. They did not just get money handed to them. We used to hold family reunions at a picnic shelter built by WPA, it was really quite nice.
