They are a naval power now, with the second (or third, behind Japan) best navy in the world. They sail in all regions at will.
When I sailed in the 80s we were taught to respect, if not fear them.
Their sub force alone gives them that status.
Let’s also talk about those satellite images that show Russian truck convoys moving from Iraq into Syria just days before we invaded. Wonder what the Russians were so desperate to remove from Syria?
Also, how is it that John Kerry, as SoS, stated “I guarantee that 100 percent of Syria’s DECLARED chemical weapons have been destroyed ... Get that? “DECLARED.” And, BTW, who was tasked with destroying those weapons? Oh, yeah - RUSSIA.
So, the commies were lying again. Nothing new. Despite the smoke and mirrors, nothing about Russia’s governance has changed. The people who run Russia now are the same people who ran the USSR.
This Russian asshat is all bluster. Russia has a failing economy. And it has trouble on all sides. The last thing it can afford is to take on the United States in any substantial way. What are they going to do, interfere in our elections? Launch more cyber attacks on us?

It is hard to believe any "intel" coming from that region after googling "syria war correspondents" and knowing the CIA is loaded with Meuller-esque clones. I would not trust the CIA for anything. History proves a pattern of deception and lies to stir up unnecessary wars that result in negative results at astronomical cost that far exceeds any gain. It is simply insanity. I pray in Jesus name for the pattern to stop.

From looking around, the Russians had 2 Kilo diesel subs and a frigate in Tarsus.
One Kilo and the frigate and some support ships left port.
That against a half dozen Arleigh Burke’s and an unknown number of US/Brit/French subs.
I do not think it is mistakes. I think it is deliberate deception. The EU and GB economies are raking in a lush harvest from the sanctions and the US, israel and Saudis are benefiting from suppressing Russian commodities profits.
