Facebook Is Breaking A Promise, And Now Conservatives Are Paying The Price
Daily Caller ^ | Apr 15, 2018 | Anders Hagstrom

Posted on 04/15/2018 2:56:17 PM PDT by upchuck

When Facebook makes promises, news outlets make bets, and dozens of outlets did just that when Facebook signaled an increase in traffic for video products in 2017.

Now, Facebook seems to be reneging on its promise. Vox fired 50 video producers due to lagging Facebook traffic in February, but conservative news outlets have been on unstable ground with Facebook since 2016. The IJR had a culling of its own, and RARE went out of business entirely. In January, Facebook changed policies and cut the amount of news users will see on the site in general and also made the decision to boost “trusted” news outlets while suppressing their competitors.

According to a report from The Outline, conservative and right wing outlets are hit the hardest, while the engagement numbers of most predominantly liberal publishers remain unaffected. Liberal or left-leaning outlets made up nine of the top ten performing publishers on Facebook in March 2018, with only Fox News representing conservatives.

When Texas Sen. Ted Cruz dug into Mark Zuckerberg on this exact topic this week, Zuckerberg floundered, insisting that the far left views of Silicon Valley don’t leak into how Facebook does business, but some former Facebook employees tell a different story. They say they “routinely” suppressed conservative news stories from the site’s “trending” news section.

“Facebook’s news section operates like a traditional newsroom, reflecting the biases of its workers and the institutional imperatives of the corporation,” Gizmodo writes.

What that translates to is every conservative outlet in the country has to get through a liberal newsroom before it gets to Facebook users.

Facebook can't seem to make up its mind. Seems to be foundering trying to find a solution.

That they lived is not surprising.

Here's the evil part: You can delete your Facebook interface to the world, it's true. However, everything you've ever posted to Facebook belongs to them forever.

They will not stop scraping your account to make $$ just because you 'deleted' it.

Facebook is infested with recent hires that came directly from the Clinton and Obongo campaigns and we’re getting exactly what you would expect.

Facebook is nothing more than another numbers racket...

That's a good way to think about it.

well, nobody forces anyone to use Facebook. Going in, folks know that the owner is a liberal f*cktard and the site is bent that way as well.

Stop using it, and find another platform.

Pretty simple.

People need to be careful how they use social media. Especially younger people who are still building their careers. Prospective employers scrutinize an applicant's social media profile. As a hiring manager, I can tell you from experience that we have unconsidered otherwise qualified candidates purely on their social media content.

Also, people here on Free Republic need to realize that this is part of social media as well and even though we mostly use pseudonyms, it is fairly easy for our real identities to be determined.

Never has a greater truth been written. This especially applies to parents who allow their teens to use FB.

Well if someone really wants to know ‘who’ and ‘where’ you are it's just a click away because even if you don't post on social media sites other institutions, companies etc. have your information out there.

Try and see a physician and see if you can get in without giving them your information to slot into their computers.

How, exactly, can that be done (fairly easy) Sam?

At least nobody in Government is talking about actually enforcing our Anti Trust Laws describing this activity as a FELONY!!!

https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/competition-guidance/guide-antitrust-laws/antitrust-laws

The Sherman Act outlaws “every contract, combination, or conspiracy in restraint of trade,” and any “monopolization, attempted monopolization, or conspiracy or combination to monopolize.” Long ago, the Supreme Court decided that the Sherman Act does not prohibit every restraint of trade, only those that are unreasonable. For instance, in some sense, an agreement between two individuals to form a partnership restrains trade, but may not do so unreasonably, and thus may be lawful under the antitrust laws. On the other hand, certain acts are considered so harmful to competition that they are almost always illegal. These include plain arrangements among competing individuals or businesses to fix prices, divide markets, or rig bids. These acts are “per se” violations of the Sherman Act; in other words, no defense or justification is allowed.

The penalties for violating the Sherman Act can be severe. Although most enforcement actions are civil, the Sherman Act is also a criminal law, and individuals and businesses that violate it may be prosecuted by the Department of Justice. Criminal prosecutions are typically limited to intentional and clear violations such as when competitors fix prices or rig bids. The Sherman Act imposes criminal penalties of up to $100 million for a corporation and $1 million for an individual, along with up to 10 years in prison. Under federal law, the maximum fine may be increased to twice the amount the conspirators gained from the illegal acts or twice the money lost by the victims of the crime, if either of those amounts is over $100 million.

The right needs to sue companies like FB out of existence due to their use of double standards regarding political, gender, racial or ethnic discrimination. We must use their own play book against them.

People are stuck on stupid. Most people and corporations see it as a necessity and NOT an evil intrusive entity. As for so many things wrong with society, I actually blame society because society gives power to those who harm society. We are regressing.
