The story is that Kubrick had him come in and free form/ ad lib DI phrases and lingo for about 2 hours or so. He handed the tape over to the writers, and most of the Gunny’s lines in FMJ were writen directly from what he said.

One of the top 5 best actors out there, and more importantly, a fine marine.

Ermey, who was an NRA board member, said at the time that his association with the organization and his disapproval of President Obama cost him acting jobs.

“Do you realize I have not done a movie in five to six years? Why? Because I was totally blackballed by the ... liberals in Hollywood,” he alleged. “They can destroy you. They’re hateful people [who] don’t just not like you, they want to take away your livelihood ... that’s why I live up in the desert on a dirt road ... I don’t have to put up with their crap.”

I don’t think he ever recovered from when he bashed B.Hussein Obama and Hollywood blacklisted him destroying his career.

And my father was telling me that yet again Hitlery fell and broke another bone. This woman is breaking more bones in a month than Evel Knievel in his entire career and still she lives.

My GLOCKs are in mourning.

My Glock jumped up and demanded I take it out to the playground ASAP.

I'll rip off 21 AIMED shots in Gunny's honor.

have always wondered how much he was involved in writing his lines for the movie.

From what I understand, Stanley Kubrick let R. Lee improvise a lot of his dialog in 'Full Metal Jacket'.

Kubrick didn't understand all of R. Lee's dialog like the line about "having the common courtesy to give a reach around". Kubrick had to be told what that line was about.

In any case, RIP Gunny. You will be missed.
