APNewsBreak: California rejects border duties for troops

California has rejected the federal government’s initial plans for National Guard troops to the border because the work is considered too closely tied to immigration enforcement, two U.S. officials told The Associated Press.

The state informed federal officials it will not allow its troops to fix and repair vehicles, operate remotely-controlled surveillance cameras to report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol, operate radios and provide “mission support,” which can include clerical work, buying gas and handling payroll, according to officials with knowledge of the talks who spoke condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter.

Talks between U.S. and California officials about the duties the California troops would perform soured Friday and over the weekend after state authorities told federal officials that they would not participate in vehicle maintenance and the other jobs outlined for an initial phase across the border in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, the U.S. officials said. The other border-state governors — all Republicans — have openly embraced Trump’s plans.

The state’s position infuriated some federal officials because the restrictions California officials wanted to impose on what the state’s troops would not do were considered onerous, the officials said.

I hope Brown doesn't get his funding and is told "no thanks". I think the guard from other states can be sent there.

So CA politicians want a fight. Let’s accommodate them their way.

Boycott everything in and from CA, starting with movies, then travel, then produce and wines, then whatever.

Moonbeam is gonna lose if the Feds push it, plus he’s an idiot because the NG gets funding and support from the Feds.

They may find them at the bottom of that list.

FINE. California troops will be deployed along the border outside of California and scrub the $hitters of all the others who are doing their assigned jobs.

It should only take a generation or two for Californians to
come around.

Are you sure about that? I know states are not sovereign but marching troops into them does not sound like a US thing to do, short of martial law.

Nearly 5K NG/ER were KIA in Vietnam. Hundreds more in Iraq/Afghanistan. Tell Governor Brown to go f himself. President Trump should simply deploy them. If they refuse? Court Martial them. And send brown to GITMO!

I see moon beams rising
I see trouble on the way
I see earthquakes and lightnin’
I see bad times today
Don’t go around tonight
Well, it’s bound to take your life
There’s a Moonbeam on the rise

“California has rejected the federal government’s initial plans for National Guard troops to the border because the work is considered too closely tied to immigration enforcement.”

Maybe I’m reading too much in this statement, but isn’t the state’s refusal to send National Guard troops an admission on their part that immigration enforcement is the federal government’s job and not theirs. Yet, they are doing everything they can to stop the feds by warning of ICE raids and declaring themselves a sanctuary state!

Good! I live in CA and I try as best I can to starve the beast. We purchase as much as we can from no tax out of state suppliers. Brown is a POS! He’s always been one. But good luck with getting good wines elsewhere. I guess you can buy that upstate New York $hit, Mogen David, or some other WPLJ crap, but CA wines are still the best in the world.
