As Californians are painfully aware, the Democrat Stronghold of Sacramento this year levied upon them an additional gasoline tax that soaks motorists for nearly twenty cents per gallon. Yes, on its face, it's "only" twelve cents per gallon, but nothing in Sacramento is as it appears. Democrats inserted language that alters the way that tax is calculated, and that little bit of typical Democrat chicanery accounts for the difference between what they say, and what drivers actually pay.
As fewer Californians know, Reform California, with Carl DeMaio as Chairman, is leading the push to place an Initiative on the November ballot allowing California voters the opportunity to affirmatively reject this tax by voting to repeal it.
Republican Members of the State Assembly, were presented with the golden opportunity to affirm economic solidarity with their beleaguered constituents by helping fund the effort to place the initiative on the ballot. In a fashion that typifies why the GOP are a struggling minority -- nearly an afterthought -- in Sacramento, they refused to help.
DeMaio writes:
As you know, we are still short on funds for the Gas Tax Repeal Initiative and have until middle of next week to finish our signature drive. Every day we struggle with paying the expenses for signature collection, but its individual contributors like YOU that keep us going!Last Tuesday, I flew to Sacramento and made an appeal for last-minute funding to our entire Republican State Assemblymembers. They are collectively sitting on millions in their campaigns. Unfortunately, not even one has contributed to the effort since my appeal. Not one.
Some of these so-called elected leaders said they were afraid of retribution from Gov. Jerry Brown and his cronies. Others said they were upset that we had publicly called them out for voting to raise the Cap and Trade gas taxes by almost $1/gallon by 2022. Others just sat in silence nibbling on the free lunch provided to them.
I'm outraged that our elected officials in the GOP Assembly delegation sit on the sidelines while individuals like you step up and contribute and collect signatures! They are either too lazy or too unwilling to pitch in and help lead opposition to the bad laws that get passed like the car and gas tax hikes. Frankly, some would like to see us fail because they like the pork projects that higher taxes bring.
Incumbent and prospective Republican candidates have no latitude to marvel at their inability to gain traction among registered voters given this level of apathy for what is, historically, a core Republican policy position. When Republicans refuse to swing at the ball when the pitch is put squarely in their wheelhouse, they ought, perhaps, be more truthful and just come out as the Democrats they are imitating.
I suggest that today would be a very good day for Californians to express their dismay and scorn to the GOP contingent of the State Assembly.
Besieged Conservatives in "blue" districts; consider this an "all swim" and address Assembly Members in neighboring Districts.
We should have DeMaio in congress right now. He actually won his race and the demonrat opponent - whose campaign openly lied about DeMaio the entire race - “found” absentee ballots and “won” two days later.
What the tax cuts put into the pockets of those folks who must travel back and forth to work, the gas prices eat up!
He cannot allow others to take away the pocketbook dollars the tax cuts were to increase!
Our ‘republicans’ are toothless and worthless.
And don’t forget it was a ‘republican’ president who threw open the borders and let the camel’s nose get under the tent as regards immigration.
It’s a part of why I spew vitriol at the moron traitors who flame away at California here- the REPUBLICAN party sold us down the river, all for the sake of the Cheap Labor Express and THEN supposed Americans have the temerity to whine about ‘commifornia’;
The Democrat way...
It cracks me up when people from states like Virginia complain about California and say we should get kicked out of the union.
At best they are only 10 years behind us.
I’m beginning to believe that the de-nuclearization of North Korea and Iran will be easy compared to dealing with this Sanctuary State of California.
Sounds like the Dems there are so entrenched that only a collapse of their Government and mass exodus of businesses will cause anything to change.
LOL!
I know, right?
They wouldn’t be so entrenched if the Republican hadn’t sold us down the cheap labor river. Once you let the roaches in, the rats aren’t far behind
Yeh, and I just read another Peggy Noonan story touting “capitalism” and “free trade” — as if Trump doesn’t care about that.
Free Traitors, er traders, squeal like stuck pigs when you threaten the ease with which they can sell out American workers. Just as bad as neocons when you want the US to stop playing World Cop.
drivel....... fake post
Huh?
