We are on the same page. I have avoided both “gay” (which is an abused word) and “homosexual” (which is an oxymoron) for years.
I call it homoeroticism, and call them homoerotics.
There is no functional form of sexuality between two members of the same sex.
This is fetishistic narcissism: eroticising another human being who is like oneself. The Other is not desired, only a reflection of the Self.

“Am I Gay?” Today, every family in America faces this question one way or another.” Really? To be precise he should have said "a growing number of families." I have a niece. A friend of mine has a transgendered niece. Another friend has a nephew. I am finding that it is not unusual.
