GOP senator: ‘Way too early’ to talk about Republican support for Trump in 2020

Republican Sen. Ron Johnson (Ohio) said Thursday that “it’s way too early” to discuss supporting President Trump in 2020.

“Chris, you know it’s way too early to be talking about the 2020 - ” Johnson told CNN’s “New Day” when asked if he will support Trump in a 2020 re-election bid.

“No, it isn’t not to say that you support the guy who’s president, who’s the head of your party,” CNN anchor Chris Cuomo pushed back. Johnson argued that 2020 could be a different landscape and pointed to the November’s upcoming midterm elections.

“It could be a completely different world by 2020. We have a 2018 election first,” Johnson said. “So, you know, I understand the kind of ‘gotcha’ question you’re engaging here. But it’s just way too early to even be talking about it.”

Johnson is from Wisconsin not Ohio. Was this inexcusable error in the Hill story or the transcription?

Trump was elected to do a job. He has faced roadblocks and lack of support in his own party. Elected officials fear being re-elected. The media is the Democrat
Party, at work everyday against Trump. The citizens of the U.S. are punished, because people cannot find a way to work together and compromise.

Special how the Hill takes “it’s way too early to talk about 2020” and turns it into GOP is unsure if they will support Trump in 2020. Most of these swamp dwellers don’t even know if they will be around after 2018. Now if we get down to the question, “Are you willing to support Trump to get reelected in 2018?”, there might be some interest in the interview.

Way to fact-check there, The Hill.

Just going on CNN indicates bad judgement.

No support for anybody doing same.

Didn’t nearly all US Senators NOT support Trump in the primaries and he still won despite all that?
It’s not up to Ron Johnson or any other US Senators to decide who the Republican candidate is in 2020. It’s up to we the people.

The RINO GOP didn’t support him in 2016 or during his presidency so who cares? America first deplorables will ensure Trump’s reelection.

I think it is way to early to be talking about the 2020 election - period. We need to be focusing on the mid terms.

Saw the interview - Ron is from northern Wisconsin. And he beat out a yellowed ‘man-tanned’ liberal who held the seat for long time (Puss Foundgold, D), who at the slightest hint of a primary on RJ will jump in again and likely win.

RJ may not fit all someone’s issues, but he is a republican and a business man. When the time comes, he will support DJT.
