Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein assured President Trump last week that he is not a target of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation or the probe into his longtime lawyer, Michael Cohen, “according to several people familiar with the matter”.

Me thinks they are running damage control for Rosenboy in an effort to keep him in the driver’s seat.
According to DOJ long standing policy a sitting president cannot be a target because a sitting president cannot be indicted while in office. However the same evidence that would be used to indict can be supplied to congress to justify impeachment and removal.
Weasels will alway tell you they are not weasels...aka Comey telling Trump, “I don’t do sneaky things and do not leak or do weasel moves.” And then just recently admits he was the leaker. Yep, Comey is a weasel, by his own admission.
Yeah, this was said about the time Rosenstein and Mueller were
setting up NYC prosecutors and courts to raid Trump’s lawyer’s client records.

If Mueller showed up in court and told the judge Trump was a target, and he wanted to seize the records belonging to Trump’s attorney, he would have had a tough fight. However, he is now free to announce Trump is a target based on what he unexpectedly found in the records.
At the same time, he also told Trump that he could give him a smoking deal on the Brooklyn Bridge!

I heard someone on Fox say that Rosenstein told Trump that he is not the target of the Cohen probe. Anyone know for sure? I mean, it doesn’t mean anything; that could change by the hour.

This was certainly a witch hunt to begin with, but they have completely failed and now might be trying to make nice.
As with kings, if you set out kill a witch, you better finish the job - and they have failed.
Maybe they are trying to cover their tracks and make it look like it has never been about Trump.
