The truth behind Brunson case: Top-secret document proves Erdogan's hostage-taking foreign policy

The Region has obtained a top-secret document of Turkey's Secretariat of the National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) that reveals the details of the investigation of the American pastor, Andrew Brunson. According to the document, he was arbitrarily arrested based on orders, not evidence.

Andrew Brunson, a Christian pastor who has lived in Turkey for more than two decades, was indicted on charges of helping the group that Ankara holds responsible for a failed 2016 coup against President Tayyip Erdogan. He faces up to 35 years in prison.

"I've never done something against Turkey. I love Turkey. I've been praying for Turkey for 25 years. I want the truth to come out," Brunson told the court in Turkey’s Aegean city of Izmir.

All accusations against Brunson are based on three secret witness statements. No substantial evidence shows that the pastor is a member of the group (Gulenist movement) responsible for the failed coup. The document of Secretariat of the National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) obtained by The Region reveals that the detention of Brunson is unlawful and decided within the chain of command.

None of this is a surprise, but documents make it much more difficult to make excuses for.

This obviously came directly from Erdogan the Islamist.

Why is Turkey still in NATO? With an Islamic dictator it is firmly in the enemies camp.

I was in Turkey in 1982. Before that, I was somewhat neutral about Turkey being in NATO. After I left Turkey, I was dead set against them. I still am today.
