GUEST COLUMN: Gov. Hickenlooper wrong on impact of legal pot
Colorado Springs Gazette ^ | April 23, 2018 | Peter Droege

Posted on 04/24/2018 5:43:15 PM PDT by george76

The governor of Colorado does our nation a grave disservice by misleading the public about the impact of marijuana on his state in the April 9 interview in Rolling Stone magazine.

Neither the governor's statements, nor the smoke rising from 4/20 events, can hide the fact that drug use and addiction, especially among youths, are a growing public health concern in communities across Colorado and the nation.

...

According to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, Colorado is a national leader among 12-17-year-olds in:

(1) Last year marijuana use; (2) Last month marijuana use; and (3) The percentage of youths who tried marijuana for the first time.

A 2017 analysis by the Denver Post showed Colorado had experienced a 145 percent increase in the number of fatal crashes involving marijuana-impaired drivers between 2013 and 2016.

...

Westword magazine reports that increased homelessness, drugs, and crime are causing local residents and convention visitors to shun Denver's 16th Street Mall, once one of the most vibrant tourist destinations in the region.

The interview in Rolling Stone is not the first time that Gov. John Hickenlooper has made misstatements about the impact of marijuana in Colorado.

...

Most dispensaries in Colorado are in low-income neighborhoods, targeting young people who do not need another obstacle in fulfilling their great potential in life.

Helen Thorpe ( Hickenlooper's ex-wife ) said that legal pot is affecting kids negatively, especially edibles.

Libs/Progressives are incapable of being honest. To them, the truth is whatever they want it to be.

That there would be greater incidents of car crashes involving marijuana users is unsurprising.

What it doesn’t tell me is if the overall auto fatality rate has increased or decreased, as the total fatality rate would be a more telling correlation of marijuana’s effects

Leftists always seem to use inverse logic. Poor and dependent on government is a good thing to them. The successful are enemies of the state.

Lenin said, Guilt or Innocence is a bourgeois concept. Either someone is expedient or inexpedient.

The left sees anything that is that is inexpedient to their cause as criminal and anything that is expedient to the cause is not criminal .

State law does not require coroners to test deceased drivers specifically for marijuana use in fatal wrecks — some do and some don’t — and many police agencies say they don’t pursue cannabinoid tests of a surviving driver whose blood alcohol level is already high enough to charge them with a crime.

Marijuana is figuring into more fatal crashes overall. In 2013, drivers tested positive for the drug in about 10 percent of all fatal crashes. By 2016, it was 20 percent.

More drivers are testing positive for marijuana and nothing else. Of the drivers involved in fatal crashes in 2014 who tested positive for cannabinoids, more than 52 percent had no alcohol in their system. By 2016, it had grown to 69 percent.

“Californians moved to Denver and ruined the state....” It seems to be a hobby for some Californians.

” In 2013, drivers tested positive for the drug in about 10 percent of all fatal crashes. By 2016, it was 20 percent.”

Meaning they smoked sometime in the previous 3 or 4 weeks.

They do not test for THC. They test for its metabolites which remain in your system for up to a month.

Hickenlooper before the vote to legalize in 2012 =>

“Colorado is known for many great things — marijuana should not be one of them,” Hickenlooper said in a statement. “Amendment 64 has the potential to increase the number of children using drugs and would detract from efforts to make Colorado the healthiest state in the nation. It sends the wrong message to kids that drugs are OK.”

Ummmm, well, have you ever chatted with a certified insane individual?
Liberalism is a chronic, no-cure, mental disease that brings on insanity.
They’re nuts....what’s right, is wrong, what’s wrong is right, what’s up is down.
They’re also dangerous and would kill you in a NY second if they thought they could get away with it...sometimes, they do anyway.
