'Inclusive' Toronto Under Attack
Front Page ^ | April 25, 2018 | Lloyd Billingsley

Back in 2010, al Qaeda called for terrorist recruits to use trucks to “mow down the enemies of Allah.” In 2014, the Islamic State (ISIS) told fighters if they couldn’t find an IED or a bullet they should kill unbelievers with a knife, rock, or poison, or “run over him with your car.”

True to form, in Nice, Berlin, Barcelona, Stockholm, and London, Islamic terrorists used vehicles to mount deadly attacks. Uzbek Muslim Sayfullo Saipov, acting on behalf of the Islamic State, used a rented truck to murder eight victims in New York City last October.

Monday’s attack in Toronto was deadlier, with the driver killing Anne Marie D’Amico, an Invesco employee, and nine others, with 13 injured. As with other attacks, confusion prevailed about the motive.

I spent almost a year in the Tornto area.

I 10-0-% guarantee that Toronto and Canada are undergoing an existential crisis, similar to what Seattle did when the WTO riots happened there (I was in Seattle for that as well).

“How could such a terrible thing happen to people as great AND nice as us???”

It’s a nice narrative, except that so far there is zero evidence that this guy had any connection with, or was inspired by, Islamic terrorists. He may have copied what those terrorists did in London, Paris, etc.

That’s not to say that Justin Trudeau’s approach to Islamic radicals in Canada, including those who left to fight with Isis or similar organizations, and then returned to Canada, is not hopelessly naive (at best), but so far there’s no evidence that any of that had anything to do with this incident.

In the end, Billingsley didn't say there was. Comparison yes, connection no.

He compared the authorities' reluctance to talk about motives; he compared the Canadians' eagerness to be seen as "inclusive" of minorities such as Muslims and the mentally "different." But he ended up finding no direct Muslim connection.
