Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Tuesday that Israel may strike the Russian-made S-300 anti-aircraft defense systems in Syria if they are used against Israel.
"One thing should be clear - if someone fires on our planes, we will destroy them," Lieberman said in an interview with the Israeli website Ynet. "What's important to us is that the weapons defense systems that the Russians transfer to Syria are not used against us. If they are used against us, we will act against them."

Interesting that a Russian speaking Israeli Defense Minister is threatening the Russians IF the Russian threaten Israel. S-300 + S-400 intolerable for Israel...
The israelis can do what they want but they will go it alone. They are attacking a sovereign country that has Absolutely not attacked them. So good luck with that.

Putin is very smart, and a realist. He realizes Jerusalem cannot abide such weapons in an enemy state that has both invaded Israel and refused after all these years to even sign a damned peace treaty with her. Lieberman naturally hopes to avert difficulty with Putin... his statement today lays out the minimal acceptable defense position...”If any missiles are ever deployed against us” is a FAR cry from “we will immediately wipe out any missiles that may be brought into the range of fire”.........a far cry, indeed .. as direct as it sounds, it is a 50 percent compromise right off the starting block. Putin will recognize this immediately (and ... Moscow and Jerusalem continue their very close communications and coordination of activities in the region (including Syria). One thing is for sure, Jerusalem could knock out those missiles if it ever really became necessary...a situation that Lieberman is trying to avoid, head off... and a situation Putin doesn’t want either. Therefore, I think this will work out OK.

Without including the qualifer “if used against Israel” in the headline, it’s misleading. Even deceptive.

It’s an inflammatory headline.
It should have been => “We May Hit Russian Systems in Syria if used against us, Israel Says”
Seems reasonable.
There is little basis to dispute that Hamas and Hezbollah, the Iranian proxy terror groups, have used Syria (with the consent of Assad) as a base to attack Israel.
There is also little dispute for me that Iran, acting behind the scenes, bears much responsibility for our casualties in Iraq. Iran supplied material and financial support to the IED campaign. Period.
The problem for Israel is Iran. The problem for us in Iraq has been and will continue to be Iran.
Israel has every right to attack Syria because Syria has by silent consent and cooperation with Iran facilitated attacks on Israel. Frankly, I would have cheered loudly if Bush or Obama had leveled some military facility in Iran every time an IED killed or maimed our soldiers in Iraq. Israel wears big boy pants and if they choose to attack targets in Syria they will live with the consequences, but I do not think the situation is as simple as you make it out to be.
Without Assad, many more supposed refugees will flood Europe, in order to destroy it. Israel wants to depose Assad. Our interests do not align with Israel’s, IMO.
