Are Berlins close energy ties with Moscow paying off?
Data from Russias Federal Customs Service shows they might be after Germany paid less for natural gas from the worlds largest exporter than most other buyers. Only the U.K., which produces most of its own gas, had lower import costs among the biggest offtakers, according to the figures obtained by Bloomberg and detailed in the chart below.
Chancellor Angela Merkel has worked to strengthen the energy relationship with Russia, bucking U.S. pressure to punish Vladimir Putins interference in Syria and elections across the west. Germany has backed projects such as Gazprom PJSCs Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which some other European nations and the U.S. have opposed because it would further increase Russias influence in the region.

Germany has the biggest corruption scandal regarding Russian gas. They are just so embarrassed about it that they prefer not to talk about it so people might not have heard.
Their Chancellor Gerhard Schröder closed down their nuclear power stations and killed the Nabucco gas pipeline in favor of the Russian Nord Stream. Right after losing his re-election he was given a board position in a Russia’s Gazprom subsidiary, where he earns the big bucks without really having to do much.

Awhile back TRUMP made announcement regarding our capabilities to supply LNG...the next day Merkel announced plans for more pipelines from Russia and strengthening ties with them....Stasi and KGB live.
Smart of Germany not to be dragged around by our Deep State regarding Syria. I wish Trump would fully tell the Deep State to take a hike too.
