China is waging a ‘campaign of psychological warfare' against Australia, expert warns

CHINA is waging a “campaign of psychological warfare” against Australia, an Aussie academic has warned.

Professor Clive Hamilton, author of the controversial book Silent Invasion: China’s Influence in Australia, gave a talk to US Congress overnight in which he warned of dire consequences if Australia gives too much leeway to the rising superpower.

“Beijing knows that it cannot bully the United States — in the current environment the consequences would be unpredictable and probably counter-productive — so it is instead pressuring its allies,” Prof Hamilton said.

“Last week the PLA Navy challenged three Australian warships sailing through the South China Sea, simply for being there. It has scaled up its threats of economic harm unless Australia changes its ‘anti-China’ path.

“This psychological warfare is only stage one, with real punishment to follow if needed.”

Prof Hamilton was invited to speak to the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, which is examining foreign interference by Beijing.

He told the committee he had become concerned for his personal safety since the publication of his book in February, with security guards now employed when he speaks at public events.

According to The Guardian, he said suspected Chinese operatives have been caught trying to break into his office, and that Chinese students have been found going through his unmarked pigeon hole. He also said his computers have been infected with viruses.

Prof Hamilton said his original publisher, Allen & Unwin, pulled out of publishing his book based on fears of legal action from Beijing.

“Clearly the situation is dire when a university press will not publish a scholarly book about the Chinese Communist Party for fear of punishment by the party,” he said.

Chinese influence operations aren't particularly new, and orthodox interpretations of Chinese history are of a lotus-eating, navel-gazing nation that has seldom ventured beyond its borders. Except that China started as a small kingdom on the banks of the Yellow River that has now grown into an empire the size of a continent. It is the 3rd largest country in the world after Russia and Canada. Most of Russia and Canada are tundra. The same cannot be said about China, which has been inhabited for thousands of years. Keeping the empire together has necessitated the period shedding of oceans of blood. To keep the aggressive impulses of the empire's military commanders from devolving into civil war, Chinese rulers have traditionally acquired and annexed neighboring territories from time to time. We may be on the cusp of such a period, given Xi's recent ascension from mere term-limited officeholder to de facto emperor.

When I was in Australia, I noticed a publication called “New Dawn”.

It was basically a conspiracy oriented mag, but it had a very pro-Chinese bias to it, at least in the issue I looked at.

Mark my words, China one day will say the hell with paying for resources from Australia and will one day attack based upon a false flag or other event. Australia will assist in its own demise by disarming its population and caving to the NWO global goals including Agenda 21, 2030 and the climate change hoax.

The Aussies should acquire bio-weapons & tell the Chi-coms that if they attack there will be nothing left of them. A simple way to secure your homeland.

Several unexplainable explosions should occur simultaneously on china’s illegally occupied coral atolls.

China is well on its way to owning Africa...I’ve seen it up close during several recent visits there. It’s not at all surprising to learn that they’re trying to own a small, relatively weak (militarily weak, that is) country.

The Aussies need to plan for an eventual attack, of that I’m sure. I trust they understand that China will someday make a move.

I read recently, maybe here on FR, that China is funding communist clubs on many US universities. They’re definitely spreading the disease.

Australia already harbors millions of PRC citizens and China has increasing economic and political control over the place.

Most of the productive parts of Australia’s economy were shut down during the resources boom, replaced with government jobs in socialized healthcare and education and the like. Australia now depends on inflows of Chinese money and people into real estate (and universities, as the article points out) to keep the music playing. Many new housing developments are built by Chinese developers and marketed directly to Chinese (in China). China already owns much of Australia’s electricity supply system and is bidding for other infrastructure such as ports and gas exporters.

Australia’s banks are incredibly overextended into an enormous housing bubble, much of which has been recently revealed to be subprime liar loans. These institutions also depend on foreign financing and laundering Chinese money and so on.

The political corruption is already extensive and obvious. Australia’s former trade minister Andrew Robb negotiated a free trade agreement with China that includes ISDS provisions that Chinese companies can sue Australia in unaccountable international tribunals if changes to Australian laws affect their profits, and special immigration concessions for Chinese companies wanting to use Chinese workers in Australia. He retired to a $700,000 a year job ‘consulting’ to the Chinese company Landbridge that bought the port in Darwin, where 1600 US Marines are based. Former foreign minister Bob Carr is employed by the “Australia-China Relations Institute” that is based at a so-called university and pushes pro-China propaganda. Other universities have been infiltrated by “Confucius Institutes”. Pro-China senator Sam Dastyari (born in Iran) resigned after it was revealed that he received bribes from Chinese firms in exchange for pushing pro-China policies.

“The Aussies need to plan for an eventual attack, of that I’m sure. I trust they understand that China will someday make a move.”

The Aussies are very much aware of the Chinese threat. They’re also aware of the Indian threat. Australia is roughly two thirds the size of the continental U.S. with only about 27M people of which over 90% reside along the pacific east coast crescent. Both China and India have long looked at all that uninhabited space with aspirations of having a large presence there. Thus, the bond between the U.S. and Australia has been extremely strong since WWII. I don’t see it being damaged any time soon.
