WASHINGTON DC (Kurdistan 24) - Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) spoke with Kurdistan 24 late on Thursday, following the Senates confirmation of Mike Pompeo as the new US Secretary of State.
The Kurdistan independence referendum, King said, should have been honored, as he noted that 92 percent of voters had chosen independence.
The Kurdish people have earned their independence, he continued, by defending themselves and by defending others who needed their defense, in both Iraq and Syria.
They have a unique language, unique culture and are a people tied together by a common bond.
Kurdistan was the only area in Iraq, where I could take my body armor off and walk around the streets in a civilized and safe place, the Congressman continued. The people have demonstrated their responsibility in providing security and stability in the Kurdistan Region and deserve self-determination.
A Congressman since 2002, King enjoys good personal relations with the new Secretary of State.
I served with him in Congress for a number of years, King explained, and Im looking forward to discussions with him.

The Kurds deserve their freedom, in whatever form is possible.
Pompeo, Bolton and Steve King can certainly influence this.
Yes! Free Kurdistan!!!
4 countries have Kurds. 4 big ones. How will we do it? Shouda listened to Biden when he advocated Iraq be split into 3. A blind squirrel...
1) Would Christians feel welcome and safe? 2) Would they recognize Israel? That’s the big one. Otherwise no deal.
Prayers for the Kurds. They deserve the best!
I agree. I have close Kurd friends in Syria and the Region.
I don’t know how. That does not mean that it shouldn’t be done.
In Syria the answer is a resounding yes.
In Iraq, I think it is possible.
In Iran? Nothing short of a regime change would make it safe.
In Turkey? I will not open that can of worms. It is similar to Iran.
So here we are.
The Kurds were very close to having their own country in the late 1990’s, after the Gulf War Victory, until our State Department stepped to negotiate, instead the Generals...
Yes. The Kurds deserve to have their own country.
If they have their own country they’ll have immediate enemies who want their land(oil) back. Might be in our interests to have these nuts carve each other up. How many American troops? One is too many.
I give a thumbs up on the Kurds getting their own country. I also think that President Trump should negotiate a chunk of land from Syria and Turkey. Especially Turkey. A chunk of land from Iran would come while we have our spiked boot on their throats to end their nuclear efforts.
Conservatives advocating for a future communist state?
It’s ok if they’re Communist. Communists are more likely to go to war against each other.
