The Supreme Court on Monday announced Justice Sonia Sotomayor will undergo shoulder-replacement surgery.
Sotomayor, 63, injured her shoulder when she fell at her home earlier this month.
The court's public information office said in a press release that "tests revealed she suffered a multipart displaced head splitting fracture of her proximal humerus," and that further consultation with specialists indicated surgery was needed. The court said she will undergo reverse total shoulder replacement on Tuesday morning and will curtail activities for the next few weeks while she recuperates.
“She will wear a sling for several weeks and will undergo physical therapy for several months,” the Supreme Court said. “She is expected to recover full mobility and shoulder function.”
Based on what she said when appointed, she should have the knowledge and skills to perform the surgery herself
Perhaps the shoulder surgery will be done by a wise Latina woman who only got where she is because of Affirmative Action.

Prayers to Justice Sotomayor for a full recovery. Perhaps she should retire from the bench to make her recovery and physical therapy a bit easier to schedule?

I think that would be an excellent on her part for her health.
They make this seem routine. However, her type 1 diabetes will make the recovery difficult. Recent low blood sugar and her fall (diabetes related) means she might beat Kennedy out the door.

While she’s there, perhaps they could give her a check up from the neck up and replace the defective parts.
Why would you offer prayers for the well-being of a person who we’d all be better off with having dead?

Clearly her “humerus” is broken. She hasn’t been funny at all.
OK, FR doctors of medicine, will someone please explain what this mass of medical jargon means in terms of what happened to her and what’s going to be done.
Also, what caused the fall? Sometimes having a fall this severe is a symptom of a much more serious underlying, previously undiagnosed, illness.
