Amazon is now under scrutiny from both sides of the aisle, as Sen. Bernie Sanders echoed President Donald Trump's criticism of the e-commerce giant in a tweet this week.
"You know what Amazon paid in federal income taxes last year? Zero," the 2016 Democratic presidential hopeful said in a tweet Monday evening.
The Vermont senator linked to a Forbes article, which pointed to CEO Jeff Bezos' rise in net worth as Amazon's stock benefited from a huge earnings beat last week. Bezos, the world's richest man by Forbes' estimates, added $9 billion to his own value as the stock shot up.

“Taxes are for stupid people” ..... Jeff Bezos’ business model.
The bigger issue is how Amazon has swindled more than 40 states out of 10’s of billions in state tax revenue. They should be prosecuted out of existence and Bezos should cover the losses.

Baloney!! Amazon is a retailer, not a tax collector.
Anyone who bought from Amazon could have paid the sales tax to the state themselves.
.
What fraction of retailers don’t collect sales tax? Amazon and who else? They deserve to be run out of business for this massive tax evasion while that Bezos bastard lined his pockets. Try ordering on line from Walmart, a retailer too, and see if they collect sales tax. Don’t be ridiculous.
When I purchase from Amazon, I am charged the Pennsylvania sales tax on all items that ship from PA.
I do not pay PA sales tax if the item comes from out of state.
“Little Bonaparte: Thank you, fellow opera-lovers. It’s been ten years since I elected myself president of dis organization - an’ if I say so myself, you made duh right choice. Let’s look at duh record: In duh lass fissel year we made a hundred an’ twelve million dollars before taxes - only we ain’t paying no taxes!” ~ Some like it hot.
Bezos’ politics are not helpful for USA. It is beyond fathoming how he could entertain some of the notions he espouses. Needless to say, we’ve been very disappointed by him in that regard.
And it appears he isn’t paying any taxes to USA either.
I can only assume Amazon is following the tax code....
which means that the tax code is really as screwed up as we’ve always known or suspected. This we blame on Congress.
There being so many sell-out whores in Congress these days!
(Its not just the big corporations they sell out to, they sell out our very national defenses .. just look at what they did to us with Iran’s nuclear bombs and missiles..and that was after they were warned and WHILE Iran was threatening to nuke a list of 6 or 7 American big cities... Congress didn’t give a damn about us our our nation... they just sold us out pure and simple)
So, IMHO the primary problem is Congress.
(I also have to give Amazon credit for some very good service including courteous refunds when stuff didn’t arrive or wasn’t any good). Amazon is operating a good quality mail order outfit, imho. They deserve credit for this, I just wish Bezos would keep his (screwed up leftist) politics to hisself !!!
“There being so many sell-out whores in Congress these days!”
These days??
The DNC sends a message to Amazon and the WP.
“Take out Trump by any means legal or illegal or we will be coming for you”
Words well said...
Amen and amen.
So, how much in state and federal taxes did the Sanders pay the past two years??
Bernie should nevet talk about anyones tax rate.
ha!
yes, sellout whores in legislative bodies (and other public offices) have always been a serious problem. it just seems that we got ourselves a particularly rancid bunch of em now?
anyways, even Theo. Roosevelt could see this problem in his day (and I don’t usually like to quote TR but when a person is right, he’s right....so.....here goes...)”When they call the roll in the Senate, the Senators do not know whether to answer ‘Present’ or ‘Not Guilty’.
Agreed.
I can do business with Amazon or not.
amazing how many people agree about businesses that seem to get all these breaks and not subjected to many of the things other businesses or people have to follow, but then they still buy from or otherwise aid the company to be in existence.
I bought thru amazon maybe a dozen times a year but stopped buying anything from them about 2 years ago. Rather pay a few dollars more elsewhere than to put even a penny in jeffs pocket.
So, just for fun, I looked up how much Amazon paid in taxes at the SEC’s web site.
“Cash taxes paid, net of refunds, were $273 million, $412 million, and $957 million for 2015, 2016, and 2017.”
So I’m not sure precisely what Bernie’s talking about.

I’m all for lower taxes.
If we can’t get cuts across the board, then let anyone who can get whatever tax cuts they can.
Y’all maximize your tax deductions, right?
You’d go for zero taxes if you could, right?
