America and the EMP threat
americanthinker.com ^ | 5/3/2018 | Daniel Ashman

A congressional committee report states that a large electromagnetic pulse (EMP) inundating America could cause 90% of Americans to die. The EMP is inevitable. The dead Americans are not.

Pry explained that an EMP can happen in a few different ways: if an adversary attacks America using nuclear weapons, or naturally via a large solar storm. The reason why a large EMP hitting Earth is inevitable is that solar storms are inevitable. They happen regularly. The only question is when a large one will cross Earth's path. For instance, NASA reported that if a solar superstorm from 2012 had happened just one week earlier, it would have blasted the Earth with a catastrophic EMP. We are playing this slot machine every day. Eventually, we're going to hit the jackpot.

Well NASA needs to get busy building a YUGE faraday cage to protect us. They could ground it to the moon. Or something.

I’m betting that a gamma ray burst from deep space will get us first. Don’t worry about solar flares or nuke attack. But there is a chance that Yellowstone will beat the gamma ray burst. It is 40000 years overdue ya know.

“The EMP threat is a joke. Nothing to see here”.

Your Insurance policies and door locks are a joke, too.

LOL! Even if it is not a threat, as some believe, doesn’t the “grid” need to be more secure form other nefarious happenings?

The Gamma burst will cook us to death
Yellowstone will smother us to death.

Loss of the electrical grid will have us killing each other

If we get hit by a blast from the Sun, who cares, you’re dead.

We def will kill each other for water, food, firearms, ammo, medical supplies and coffee.

But hey, nothing to worry about if all the circuits, transmission wires and transformers are fried anyway.

Oh come on. They did EMT tests on cars that were both running and stopped. Some of the cars that were running the engine died. They had to be restarted, the horrors! The cars that were not running had no damage whats so ever.

Your logic is lacking. If there is no power and gas cannot be pumped to fuel the cars, it would not matter. I suggest you do some research and brush up on your critical thinking.

I am not going to go back and forth with you on this.

Yes, but finally housing would become more affordable in California.

According to data from the EMP Commission, the conventional wisdom may be wrong, or at least not entirely correct. In a study released in 2004, the EMP Commission subjected 37 different cars and trucks to simulated EMP attacks and found that none of them suffered permanent, crippling damage, although the results were somewhat mixed.

The study subjected vehicles to simulated EMP attacks both while shut off and while running, and it found that none of the vehicles suffered any ill effects if the attack occurred while the engine was off. When the attack occurred while the vehicles were running, some of them shut off, while others suffered other effects like erroneously blinking dash lights.

Although some of the engines did die when subjected to an EMP, each of the passenger cars tested by the EMP Commission did start back up.

The study finding suggested that 90 percent of the cars on the road in 2004 would suffer no ill effects at all from an EMP, while 10 percent would either stall out or suffer some other ill effect that would require driver intervention. That number has no doubt gone up in the intervening decade since there are more cars on the road today that make use of delicate electronics, but none of the vehicles tested by the EMP commission suffered permanent damage.
