Warships pay respect over Islay war dead site

Warships from Britain, America, France and Germany have gathered over the wreck of a World War One troopship to pay respect to the 700 men who died in two disasters off Islay. More than 200 US soldiers died when the Tuscania was torpedoed by a German U-boat off Islay in February in 1918.

One of the things I find interesting is the degree of “surprise” stated when people in the world act with respect.

I think that people would still act that way. The difference is that communication is so different, and transportation so easy, that the government would have taken over the process.

But when left to their own, most people are decent.

There seems to be a movement of common sense and decency happening all over the globe.

This, to me is a surprise and I would like to know the genesis of the event.

I don't think it was even a thought during the obama administration, leading me to believe that the common denominator is President Trump.

I believe President Cyrus has been sent by God.

Still US Soldiers buried on Islay and Jura islands I think. The only thing on those islands are peat, scotch distilleries and memorials to this sinking. Laphroig, Lagavulin, and other distilleries sent their workers to help with rescue and recovery. I think they have a local day of remembrance.

“Jennifer Jones from the museum said: “It looks very beautiful and it is still a well-made flag, even though it was made very quickly.””

I was glad to read there are no plans to destroy this historic flag.

Pure cultures, those not interbred with others (probably because no one but Robin Williams could ever speak their language), tend to have purist attitudes about life.

The dead are sacred to cultures that have not been watered down by "maybe there is no God" or some other such foolishness.

I'd be proud and thankful if a relative of mine (none that I know of, Dad was Canadian) was buried on Islay.

What was lost between 1914-1945 was irreplaceable. The best genetic stock of Western civilization was exterminated. It is no surprise that the culture has devolved into hedonistic debauchery.

What great tribute to both the dead and the Islanders.

Sure, it was 100 years ago, but some can still remember the pain and anguish from the stories of those who experienced it. Thousands of American mothers, wives, and children grieved over this at the time and the memories of their loved ones remained with them for a lifetime.

Thanks! Looks like all the bodies (the ones they found) were exhumed and returned to the US, all but for one:

Gonna have to pick up a nice scotch from the Kilchoman area, where most bodies washed up and were buried, for a proper salute, of course!:
