UC Berkeley: ‘Hard to defend’ free speech of conservatives who ‘incite’ liberal students
The Washington Times ^ | May 4, 2018 | Douglas Ernst -

A long-awaited report on free speech protections at the University of California, Berkeley, blames “hard to defend” conservative speakers for inciting left-wing students to violence.

A commission of Berkeley faculty, students formed in 2017 after violent and costly student protests called its commitment to free speech into question. Their months long study of the issue resulted in the conclusion that “ultra-conservative rhetoric” by the likes of Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter only exists to “advance a facile narrative that universities are not tolerant of conservative speech.”

“Contrary to a currently popular narrative, Berkeley remains a tolerant campus,” the report says, Politico reported Thursday. “Although those speakers had every right to speak and were entitled to protection, they did not need to be on campus to exercise the right of free speech. Indeed, at least some of the 2017 events at Berkeley can now be seen to be part of a coordinated campaign to organize appearances on American campuses likely to incite a violent reaction.”

They wasted over a year and who knows how much taxpayer money.

They concluded that leftist groups only rioted because conservatives provoked them.

LIB idiots are just like moozlums...EVERYTHING incites them. They are especially provoked when someone presents a different point of view, criticizes them in any way or even appears to criticize them.

That seems like the very definition of intolerance. But this is the sophistry that emanates from our liberal universities.

Hey Mario Savio, you freaking hypocrite. The Left’s cry for “Free Speech” is a cry for silencing every voice in opposition to the Leftist agenda and in opposition to totalitarian governmental tyranny.

Freaking hypocritical hippie leftist liars.

Berkeley is a very tolerant campus that is intolerant toward conservatives. And it encourages free speech except when it discourages free speech.

Typical left-wing doubletalk.

What separates a mature adult from a child is that mature adults can not be "incited". If the children attending Berkeley are incitable then they have some growing up to do.

We will not tolerate people who say we’re intolerant!

How very tolerant of them. Maybe it has something to do with maturity and self control. But of course nether of those characteristics exist in leftest punks.

This report will document for future historians the bizarre state of “premiere” American universities in the early 21st century. You had to be a certified fool to sign your name to this document.

The idea that people who seek to preserve their heritage incite “liberal students” to violence, and are therefore the culprits for the violence, would be more apt in Gulliver’s voyage to Laputa & the Academy in the capital of Laputa, than anything in the real world.

Speech of this kind is hard to defend, especially in light of the acute distress it caused (and was intended to cause) to staff and students, many of whom felt threatened and targeted by the speakers and by the outside groups financing their appearances,” the report continued, Politico reported.

Wait a minute. Who was it that engaged in violence?

“Conservative speakers claim we exercise censorship. That is false and we won’t allow them to say such.”

Night sticks and K-9’s at full leash will teach these little spoiled brats some manners about how to act in public.
They believe that if they don’t like what you say it is hate speech.
Equality means even those you do not agree with have the RIGHT to speak without being violently attacked. If the little snowflakes cannot control themselves the dogs can.

Parents thinking about paying to send their child to Berkeley should be reminded that a lobotomy would be a lot cheaper, and the end result is the same.

“A long-awaited report on free speech protections at the University of California, Berkeley, blames ‘hard to defend’ conservative speakers for inciting left-wing students to violence.”

I do believe that at some point Berkley was an educational institution where students actually learned. Now, not so much.

Incitement to violence is a crime based on British common law. See “The King v. Higgins” here:

http://www.commonlii.org/uk/cases/EngR/1801/444.pdf

“A bare solicitation or incitement of another to commit an offence is not indictable, unless it be accompanied by some-overt act towards carrying the intent into execution; but if no such act be done either by the inciter or the party solicited, it is nothing more, as Mr. Justice Foster observes, than a mere fruitless ineffectual temptation.”

But even beyond this, who in their right mind would subscribe to the idea that conservatives were actually trying to get left-wing students to get violent toward conservatives?

They are basically saying that conservative speech is itself criminal because it makes them angry.

And they are nuts and dangerous.

“...they did not need to be on campus to exercise the right of free speech.”

In other words, “We’re very tolerant of right wngers having free speech, just not here.”

All of their government funding needs to stop. Now.
