California to become first U.S. state mandating solar on new homes
The Orange County Register ^ | 05/04/18 | Jeff Collins

For seven years, a handful of homebuilders offered solar as an optional item to buyers willing to pay extra to go green.

Now, California is on the verge of making solar standard on virtually every new home built in the Golden State.

The California Energy Commission is scheduled to vote Wednesday, May 9, on new energy standards mandating most new homes have solar panels starting in 2020.

If approved as expected, solar installations on new homes will skyrocket.

Just 15 percent to 20 percent of new single-family homes built include solar, according to Bob Raymer, technical director for the California Building Industry Association.

“California is about to take a quantum leap in energy standards,” Raymer said. “No other state in the nation mandates solar, and we are about to take that leap.”

The proposed new rules would deviate slightly from another much-heralded objective: Requiring all new homes be “net-zero,” meaning they would produce enough solar power to offset all electricity and natural gas consumed over the course of a year.

New thinking has made that goal obsolete, state officials say. True “zero-net-energy” homes still rely on the electric power grid at night, they explained, a time when more generating plants come online using fossil fuels to generate power.

“Zero net energy isn’t enough,” said Andrew McAllister, one of five state energy commissioners voting on the new homebuilding standards. “If we pursue (zero net energy) as a comprehensive policy, we’d be making investments that would be somewhat out of touch with our long-term goals.”

While environmentalists and homebuilders praised the new standards, the proposed rules have some detractors who still support net-zero goals.

“We’re happy they’re making good progress,” said Kelly Knutsen, technology advancement director for the California Solar and Storage Association, a solar-industry group. “We wish they would go further."

Will there be moonbeam panels at night getting emanations for Gov. Brown to interpret? He gets most of his ideas from those moonbeams, you know.

Just what I want on my overpriced California house, ugly solar panels.

Maybe the “homeless” have a point. I’ve never seen a building inspector snooping around a cardboard and tarp lean-to.

I wonder what other Products the State will force People to buy? How about Guns?

After all, there is actually an Amendment to the United States Constitution saying the People have a Right to keep and bear Arms. Right, requirement, what’s the difference?

There isn’t anything in there about Solar Panels or Health Insurance for that matter.

Simple! Kalifornia should pass a law mandating that The Sun should shine 24 hours a day.

Not true in the context of solar energy. Hawai’i mandated solar hot water systems several years ago. These systems will eliminate your hot water cost completely given size of system to solar radiation ratio’s. Huge energy savings via solar hot water.

The totalitarian government of California tells everyone what they have to do. And it is based on fake science, fake religion, and fake statistics. Amazing, what the mind set of of Lucifer will do for mankind.

Has the concern of solar panels versus fighting building fires been adequately addressed? Here’s a relatively new link and some older links concerning this question.

Maybe not. I’m sure some of Moonbeam’s fellow conspirators can develop some homeless cardboard box solar panels that the state can mandate for homeless people, have the state provide them and install them for free, and have the taxpayers foot the bill!

The Peoples Demokratic Republik & Socialist Workers Paradise of Kalifornia already tells us how much water to use when we sh*t, shower, & water our lawns, how we light our homes, and what kind of smoke/CO detector we must use, so why not mandatory solar? They’ll start making it a requirement to retrofit when you sell the property. In 3, 2, 1...

“After all, there is actually an Amendment to the United States Constitution saying the People have a Right to keep and bear Arms. Right, requirement, what’s the difference?”

Oh no no no mon frere ! It gets better than that !

You know old fashioned clocks have “Regulated” or “Regulator” written on them ? Lets look at that word, in that context. Because the definition has been changed before your very eyes.

In a town, usually at the post office, was a clock that said “Regulator”. That clock was used to set all other clocks in town, that said “Regulated”. When you read a “Regulated” clock, it may be wrong by a few minutes or more. It wasn’t to be trusted. But “Regulator” meant that clock was official and to be trusted.

The word “Regulated” in those times meant “Kept in good working condition”. It does still, but many have killed that definition and instead want it to mean “Controlled by government”. That’s not the case. In the Constitution’s 2nd “Amendment” the congressional clause to be able to form a militia for the defense of country from both foreign invaders and uprising uses the words “well Regulated” which means “Kept in fine working condition”.

The Congress is supposed to, by law, GIVE EVERYONE military-grade weapons and the finest training to use those weapons in case of foreign invasion or domestic uprising.

So Yes, the Constitution says that the government has to provide us with military-grade weapons.

Will they mandate that all new homes face east and west?

Shouldn’t they all be spaced far enough apart so as they don’t block the sun from adjoining homes? Better mandate 4 acre lot sizes.

Whatever they do is sure to cost the residents of that nuthouse a fortune without any energy savings.

So you think this mandate is a good idea?

And what exactly are they going to do with the excess energy at solar peak? Set up giant electric heaters to use it up?

I know, a couple of million ton electric batteries and billion dollar inverters...

I liked it better when in God we trusted, instead of liberals.
