Had an uncle who owned a Western Auto in west Texas. We’d visit a couple of times a year. He’d point to the toy dept and say, “just pick out something”.

Many years ago Sports Authority took all the hunting and shooting sports stuff out of their stores and it didn't take very long for them to bankrupt themselves.
There were a chain of stores in Michigan (they may have been wider but I don't know) named MC Sporting Goods. When I was young my father and I bought a lot of hunting gear and ammo there. A few years ago I was back in Michigan and stopped at my old MC and it was filthy, no customers or employees, and they had not a thing related to hunting or shooting. I think they went bankrupt a little bit after that.
The Duck Dynasty folks are still advertising Yeti coolers.

Removing AR-type rifles from their inventory I get, if that's what they want to do; destroying them is pure virtue-signalling political theater, and someone else will be happy to sell them. Hiring a pair of gun control lobbyists, though, that's something else. That isn't a business decision, that's a political act that is something quite a bit more than simply selling or not selling rifles.
I'm not even annoyed, since I never bought so much as a tent stake from them anyway. Let the market decide.
