Hatch calls McCain's decision not to invite Trump to funeral 'ridiculous'

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, said Monday “it's ridiculous" that Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., reportedly does not want President Donald Trump to attend his funeral, and hopes the war hero has a change of heart.

"I think it's ridiculous," Hatch told Politico. "Well, he's the president of the United States and he's a very good man. But it's up to [McCain]. I think John should have his own wishes fulfilled with regard to who attends the funeral."

McCain’s closest family members reportedly informed the White House that the current plan is for the funeral to be held at Washington’s National Cathedral, and Vice President Mike Pence to attend – but not Trump, according to The New York Times.

McCain has been battling an aggressive form of brain cancer for more than a year.

Former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama have reportedly been asked to deliver eulogies at McCain's service.

McCain meets the requirements to be buried at Arlington a couple of times over - no matter what many think.

A lot of people meet the requirement but they won't get a plot. A few years ago 2% or 3% opted for cremation but now it is near 50%. Funeral directors have priced themselves out of an outrageous market. Besides land is becoming an increasing scarcity.

I haven't checked but I think the VA will pay for cremation so McCain should take what he negotiated for every other vet.

Laura had one on last night. Every POW that was in with John received a Silver Star I think, however there were thousands of POW who received nothing that conferred Hero status.

This not a critic of your comment just in general. I do not think God gives a rats a$$ about what people did for their country, military or senate as those are secular things. So McCain being a war hero, followed by a piece of squid feces as a politician may have no bearing on God sending him on a trip down the highway to hell. I think the greater risk to a politicians souls are the compromises they make to retain power. When they compromise on secularism, euthanasia, abortion and morality, they may may have to answer for those actions.
John McCain was an arrogant asshat that considered himself above others and was a rather unpleasant person. Frankly he was less a friend to veterans than Obama or Pelosi. His arrogance started because he was given special treatment as an Admirals son in the Navy and was a POW, which was the only thing that made him a war hero. Considering the above he was never a friend to veterans and only used his status as gravitas.
He was and is a bitter man, rejected by this country and has since screwed this country at every opportunity. Does God judge mankind based on his loyalty to his country, I do not know. Cannot stand the man but I hope God has mercy on his soul.

Just my personal opinion, but McCain didn’t want to run for President to serve his country. Deep down in the depths of his soul, the *only* reason McCain wanted to run for President was so that he would then outrank his father and grandfather.

When the campaign got hard, he slacked off, just like he slacked off in the Navy. When Palin outshined him on the campaign trail, he attacked her for it like the small-soul that he is.

After losing, the rest of his career was a gigantic “FU” to America.

Regarding Laura; that’s not what she said on her radio show the other day. She found McCain’s comments to be petty and vindictive. She was echoing much of what is being said here on FR. She is only sympathetic to the cancer and the suffering that he is going through healthwise.
