Job openings hit new record high of 6.6 million

Job openings hit a fresh record in March, further defying opinion that the labor market is tightening and near full.

The level hit 6.6 million, according to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey released Tuesday that, even though lagging a month, is closely watched for signs of market slack. Job openings in total rose by 472,000 over February.

Openings jumped in professional and business services, which added 112,000 positions, as well as construction, with 68,000 and transportation, warehousing and utilities, which reported 37,000 new positions.

The openings happened during a month when nonfarm payroll hiring grew by 135,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which releases both the monthly jobs report and the JOLTS survey.

Quits, an important indicator for whether workers feel comfortable leaving old jobs for new ones, rose to 3.34 million, up 136,000 from the February level. Gains were spread across geographic regions, with the South reporting 1.41 million.

Hires actually edged lower, to 5.42 million from 5.51 million.

This is of course the fault of President Donald J. Trump.

The McDonald’s near the office was training inner-city minority kids when I stopped in the other night. First time in at least a decade I have seen anyone other than management speaking English behind the counter there.

Trump policies are having a real effect...

What you just said proves Obama was really holding back the US economy with his policies. Now under Trump our economy is starting to pick up again.

Quick more illegals now!

Sadly all the trade openings are going unfilled because for a generation we dissuaded our youth from getting mechanical trade educations in exchange for degrees in social justice fields.

I always find the general lack of mechanical knowledge in the current crop of youth astounding.

If it isn’t on the phone well it just doesn’t exist.

Exceptions of course.

I wonder which angers Democrats more- the strengthening economy or peace in Korea?

With the attendant growing pains.

Hopefully we can have a mechanical trade renaissance of a fashion. People are badly needed.

The 2009 Stimulus is finally producing those shovel-ready jobs.

The left is saying that bammy is the cause, not Trump. bammy said, for 5 years, that he inherited a bad recession from Bush, and that it would take a long time to fix. I wasn’t fooled by his lie, but most dems were.

Liberals have said there can be no improvement in the employment numbers really, because the job market is obviously full. The same people cry that we need unlimited immigration to do all those jobs because Americans won’t work. There seems to be a bit of a contradiction here.

The "Business" media and can lie all they want but anyone with any business experience could tell you that.

Business hates uncertainty and over regulation. The company I work for sat on a $250 million plant expansion plan because they had no idea which way things were going to go economically with O in charge. They sat on their cash worried new regulations, like Obamacare, would cost them millions.

They will break ground on the new plant site this summer.

Thank you President Trump

Come again?

In a tightening labor market you would expect more unfilled job openings.

And WTH is a full labor market?

Conservative Review (Levin’s site)

The DHS continues to facilitate ‘caravan’ invasion against Trump’s wishes
Even a wall won’t stop our bad policies.

As we noted on Friday, despite presidential promises to keep out the caravan, the DHS has processed most of those who made it to the border, and according to a BuzzFeed reporter, they are being not only let in, but released into the population.

snip

As of the weekend, at least 228 invaders were allowed into the country for processing, according to BuzzFeed. Given that many of them are family units, they will likely all be released.

I remember Porkulus and all the lies about shovel ready jobs, “green shoots” of the economy, and “taking us back from the brink”. I am sure I am missing a few lies told to us back then.
