CBS Miami ^ | 05/08/2018 | Gary Nelson

A mega mall and entertainment complex in Northwest Miami-Dade that would dwarf any other appears to be on course for approval, but not without controversy.

It’s called the American Dream.

It would be the largest mall in the world.

Mall Rat Central is the proposed name. Blood-Crips Complex with MS-13 annex is another. I will avoid.

Seems kind of odd to build something like that when you can type in “Dead Malls” on a You Tube search and see some rather interesting videos.

I would visit that mall. Only once. In the daytime. To watch the natives at play.

It will be an eyesore and English will not be heard there.

I thought that most malls are struggling because of competition from Amazon and other on-line retailers. The mall nearest me is downsizing its retail capacity and replacing it with housing units, mostly apartments.

Can’t see in the article. Anyone know who the developers are? With that can see the future and where the connections are.

The Adventura mall, North Miami, is somewhat fun to watch the tourists from South America walking out with arm loads of bags of good they can’t get where they live. Incredible the money spent.

Interesting...the developers aren’t named it the article, just their mouthpiece.

Maybe they’ll have a drug paraphernalia shop, a penicillin clinic, an abortion clinic and a funeral parlor all under one roof. One stop shopping.

China’s ghost cities seem to be a somewhat similar phenomenon. They were built merely to inflate GDP numbers.

And of course I keep hearing about how brick-and-mortar retail is collapsing under the weight of e-retail. Definitely counterintuitive.

My very first thought, too.

Let's consult the crystal ball...the image is a bit hazy...WAIT! It's coming into focus...I can see clearly now...

My Exchange student adult pilot and his sister come to America from Brazil and spend untold sums on stuff.

The sister spends hours in victoria’s secret with a long list.

The last time here they bought 10 Apple TV’s thingys.

I went with them to Petco and could not believe the buggy full of pet stuff.

At a time when the mall concept is rapidly declining.

There must be federal dollars involved somewhere.

Nice to see most of the commenters have no clue what is being built. To the poster who likes the Boca mall . . . I live in Boca, it’s almost only for shopping . . . have fun, that Mall bores me.

This is well beyond that . . . many entertainment features, lots of fun stuff for the kids. Indoor pool and beach, waterslides, ‘ski’ slopes, ferris wheel, etc. A place for locals who don’t want to pay $100 a day per person to go to Disney. Even Cirque de Soleil.

This will be marketed to the Latin traveler just like Mall of America (same developer) is marketed to the Canadian visitor. Just like cruise ships get more entertaining each iteration so is something like this. Perfect location too! Near I-75 meets the Sawgrass (80 miles from Naples and two hours or less for Ft. Myers is an easy day trip from there). Easy to get to from the Cruise port in Ft. Lauderdale, right off the end of Alligator Alley, etc. Also near the Miami and Ft. Lauderdale Airports.

But sometimes Freepers have to jump to conclusions.
